this happened at the mother's home on terrell avenue in oceanside. >> reporter: sibila, police say it was a mother-daughter argument inside the home behind me that led to this stabbing yesterday. this afternoon, the 56-year-old daughter charged with this crime pleaded not guilty and her lawyers say it may have been a factor beyond her control that prompted this tragedy. neighbors left flowers on irma grossman's porch, just steps from where the grandmother's blood still stained the ground. >> you don't know what goes on in people's houses. >> reporter: it was irma grossman's own daughter susan who killed the 79-year-old with a kitchen knife. the daughter had come to visit her mom monday afternoon. >> an argument ensued over the daughter's ongoing medical conditions. the daughter enraged ultimately stabbed her mother to death. >> reporter: nassau police wouldn't say what that medical condition is, but later in court her lawyers said their client suffers from mental illness. >> she does have prior psychiatric history. very serious psychiatric history. >> reporter: a law enforcement sourc
