i have one hostage negotiation-trained officer, officer francisco, he is also my school resource officer. he is a bright, young officer. i'm grateful to have him as well especially when time is of essence. as far as certified languages, i have eight cantonese, one togalo, two mandarin, ten spanish and i'm grateful to have officer johnny wong who is also my foot beat officer on the leaden street corridor. he speaks two dialects of chinese, portuguese and spanish. very fortunate to have him. staffing overview. i have 26 supervisors. four percent are african-american. 65 percent are white. 12 percent are latin, 15 percent are asian, and four percent are other. of which 88% are male and 12% are female. moving onto officers. 10% are african-american, 18% are white. 22% are latin. 28% are asian. 12% are other. 81% of those are male and 19% are female which is generally reflective of the community that we serve. moving onto next slide regarding crime trends and these are our top concerns and strategies. oftentimes we get concerns of increased crime in the area. how do we address that? in ingles

it all starts in our office, the assessor's office. our job is to determine the assessed value of all taxable property, within the city and county. from there, we multiply the value by the tax rate. that tax rate is 1% across the state but here in san francisco, it's usually a little bit over 1%. that amount will fluctuate year to year, depending on the level of the city's bonded indebtedness. so once we have assessed value times tax rate, there are additional special assessment fees and leans that are added on to your bill. with those, they come from a variety of different sources and agencies. these actually do not have to do with your taxes for your property. they are voter approved measures that are tacked on to the bill in addition to the property taxes and they put it there as a convenient means of all that funding on one go, in one bill, instead of sending multiple bills. once we have all of this information, all of this is transmitted to the treasurer or tax collector's office and their role on an annual basis is to calculate t

this man is an active prison officer. i asked him how difficult it was tojoin officer. asked him how difficult it was to join the service? it is the easiestjob interview, recruitment process i have been through. anybody and everybody can get in the prison now. do you ever fearfor get in the prison now. do you ever fear for your safety? every day. in the first two weeks on the job a prisoner went after me with a knife. i have been punched, kicked, grabbed round the throat and nearly choked unconscious. do you still want to do thisjob? unconscious. do you still want to do this job? yes, i believe i can make a difference but there is too few of us. a difference but there is too few of us. since 2010, over 6000 officers have left the service. recruitment is under way again but compared to a decade ago there is still approximately 2000 fewer officers. lot of prison staff are underqualified. because there is that many people leaving the prison service. the current level of an experience in thejob has led officers to tell me that they are no longer the ones calling the shots.
