why ohio and? we've already talked about a lot of these issues that are probably responsive before this first demographics. we've already talked about this. we've seen how ohio rose become the third largest state in the country by the 1840s. so just by sheer force of numbers, the state would have a leg up. but this alone explain it all new york and pennsylvania had more people but they didn't the same record. what else is true ohio's politic population it comes from. it's not just how it's where they're as we've seen ohio the first state carved out of the public system and ohio drew its population from all over the country. mid-atlantic southerners. they funneled into the state and also drew overseas immigrants from places like germany and ireland. so as one historian has said, ohio was as near a microcosm of america as one could find in the late 19th century. and as such, it becomes important swing state whose state and congressional delegation could flip between democratically controlled and repu

in fremont, ohio. he was referred former, his wife was a reformer. when the civil war started, he joined as a major the 23rd ohio volunteer infantry, he saw a lot of action. he was wounded five times but kept returning. in the end of the war as a major general! he was the nominated to congress while the still war was going on but he refused to campaign saying "an officer fit for duty with this crisis would abandon his host to an election year for a seat in congress ought to be staked". that was all the camping you did. and that's all the campaigning he needed to do. he was elected. he did not like congress, and he returned to ohio and served as the governor for three terms the first ohio governor to serve three times. and he gets elected as a publican when the democrats actually taking the statehouse. this is -- this is the popular transcendence, the republican base. again, he is very scrupulous. beyond reproach. there are no skeletons in his closet. unfortunately, his presidency was limited, even befo

this is delaware ohio. traditionally a college and farm supply town until the development of the county airport and its surrounding industrial park. now there are five signs of all employers adding to the economy during its first year of operation. this single plant contributed $6.5 million to the local economy. good morning, ppg industries of delaware, ohio. the 457 employees earned $4.6 million in wages and salaries. purchases from area suppliers came to $670,000 and service expenditures reached nearly $1 million. this one plant paid a quarter million dollars in local and state taxes in ohio alone. studies that airport development has attracted or expanded 1500 manufacturing firms providing. 60,000 new jobs and $250 million in income. these companies have made a capital investment of over $1 billion. the cost the state's entire network of airports through bond issues was $6.2 million. the major companies are decentralizing. they're moving out into the community such as yours, because we're finding a bette

the forests in ohio were filled with chestnuts. there's estimates that over percent of mohican forest was at one time, chestnut, it fed a lot of people. so especially during the depression, not having the ability to collect those chestnuts either to or to eat was a big issue. and by the time the force had purchased the land, the chestnuts, dead people that were alive. the time said if you went out in the forest, it just looked like tombstones of all these dead trees standing, turning forest into a giant cemetery. and part of that problem is then fires happened. you know, obviously fires are an issue even today out west with a lot of the forests. we're very fortunate in ohio. we have not a major fire for quite some time. but in 1931, there was a major fire and it destroyed nearly 200 acres of the forest and, even more of private land surrounding the forest. so the forest at the time was only 500 acres and over 200 were destroyed because it just burned through all that dead timber. so these a images, the fire damage. i know they're d

i was spreading quickly throughout ohio. the whole reason they bought the forest was to protect the pine. how do you do that when there's a new fungus attacking it? but, conveniently, this was at the same time that the ccc came about. originally, ohio ordered six ccc camps. of those six, one was supposed to be in mohican. their goals were forced street forest projects like street planning, fire prevention and insect and disease control. however, just days after they announced mohican, the state decided let's take it off the list. forest is too small, half of it has burned away, the other half is going down because of disease. so, what is the point in wasting resources there? lastly, local officials were able to go directly to the governor and petition him. they support their own private surveys showing that there's work to do there. so, mohican was put back on the list. so, we kind of spoke about how quickly the ccc was put into action, because the way that they did that was they actually put the ccc under army control. so,

host: that is nancy in ohio. as we noted, one of the key votes here could be don bacon, republican of nebraska. according to most lists, he is in the know category -- the no category. his name being high up in the alphabet, it will be an early tell. don bacon spoke with reporters yesterday about where he was. [video clip] >> your concern about of vote for speaker? >> i think people can disagree on this. very few things are zero or 100. on one side, we need a speaker. we have israel that needs help. we have a november deadline and i feel all of that. i don't feel any joy saying this and my heart is broken. i cannot overlook the fact that there is a small group of people that violated the rules in january and then vacate the chair and then ski sillies -- and then steve scalise. we have 15 votes where our rules were violated and nothing is done, vacate the chair, eight people, nothing was done. -- had 98% of the vote. he should be the speaker. steve scalise won the vote and we have five people loyal to jim so they w
