but we are seeing a storm system sweeping its way from the ohio valley towards the mid atlantic. that's gonna bring some pretty nasty conditions over the next few days. but before that was still seeing an atmospheric river, it's pulled into california tons of snow as it moves across the rockies, some heavy snow to come into the pacific northwest as we go into thursday. however, you can see that when the weather, once again starting to work its way in bringing a flood risk to parts of california. there's not the winter weather, affecting eastern areas of canada, and the severe storms rumbling their way towards the eastern seaboard on the devoted, dividing line when it comes to temperature is a bit to cold cleaning on across the north. but there were all those very hot features down in the deep south, for example, dallas touching up to 30 before we see a tumble in that temperature through to sunday. and there's lots of heat to be found to cause northern parts of mexico. we'll see monterey hit 30 degrees on thursday. the in the shadow of shanghai is blooming metropolis, a crumbling

severe thunderstorms slam the ohio valley yesterday. and in the midwest and northeast, beware of ice. >> oh poor guy. >> so that guy is okay. he actually sent that video into the cnn weather department as a good reminder to watch out and beware of ice. those storms have caused tens of thousands of power outages, and a slew of crashes have already happened because of it. this week, cnn's derek van dam has the very latest for us on the winter weather that just won't quit. i know it's not yet over, but i can still complain about it. what are you watching? >> yeah. buckle up, kate, because if we count yesterday's storm that moved through the east coast, we have five winter storms to contend with across the u.s. over the course of the next two weeks. what an incredible round. i will call it a winter blitz. right? and right now it's actually raining in los angeles. and i want to show you the satellite loop, because this is the storm system that is going to race across the country, bringing a swath of snow and eventually ice to the east coast.

have the next system starts off across portions of the lower mississippi valley, sliding over the ohio valley and then back into the mid-atlantic and into the northeast. right on its heels. you've got the next system that's going to push into the midwest first before sliding across the great lakes and spreading into the northeast again, bringing some more snow. and then the next system begins to arrive as we head into the weekend, especially into the weekend. so again, as we mentioned, it's really just the back to back nature of all of these systems. that is the biggest concern. >> allison, thank you very much. well, a federal judge has set a hearing tomorrow afternoon on the buyout offered to federal employees by the trump administration before the judge's ruling. eligible federal workers had until midnight on thursday to decide whether or not to take the offer, which will generally allow them to leave their jobs but be paid through the end of september. 2 million employees received that offer, and a white house official says about 65,000 have accepted. that's about 3%. joining me now is for
