ohio union stripping law never took effect. the great state of michigan has the same kind of process for recalls. signatures from 5% of the number of people who voted in the last race for governor is what it takes to get a law on the ballot for recall. like ohio, if you get a law on the ballot for recall, that effort stops the law in its tracks. the law is no longer enforce. the law can't be enforce anymore until after people get a chance to vote on it. that's the way it works in ohio. i think 6% of signatures. the way it works in michigan with 5% of signatures. in michigan february 29th this year without any fanfare we saw in ohio or wisconsin, these michiganers turned insignificants to recall a new law passed by the republicans. the caravan to the state capitol in lansing and carted these boxes to the board of state canvassers. this week, they found out they got enough signatures. they had more than enough by 40,000. the staff of the state canvasser said they went through the signatures and totaled up the real ones and threw out the ones they could not verify and said there were more than enough signatures to put this michigan law on hold and let

we saw a similar law in ohio later voted down. we have seen a right to work path. with this environment, i would like to ask our panelists how you make a case for collective bargaining right now when it seems to be under such a large attack. tell us why collective bargaining is so important and what happens when groups of workers lose. >> collective bargaining gives us the ability to sit down at the table and to be treated fairly and equally by negotiating over wages and conditions. if you look at those who are trying to take collective bargaining away from us, they are in ohio. they are friends and allies of the same people who are trying to take our voting rights away. they are attacking women's rights, and the same people. this is why it is so important for us. we may have some differences. be played by the rules every single day. our members are being used and sacrifice. we cannot let that happen. wisconsin, state of the governor did take away collective bargaining. we did not bury our heads in the sand. we fought back. we fought back and worked in coalition wi

but in ohio, or in florida, the vote may be like 50/50. and the little nuances of pofling cpofl i polling can make a difference. if it is 60/40 in utah, four-point swing doesn't make much at all. it is a challenge, for those who do, to poll in swing states. we poll in the groups of -- just today, we released with "usa today" anning a regrags of pofling in 12 swing state us, which we think is useful. we don't put resources in pochling individually in these states in tracking it all year long. i think it's more efficient to poll nationally and monitor what is happening at this level. >> the ftc has the do not call list and quite often if, you are at home, you see 800 number, you may not pick that up, as well. i know you have to dealle with that. or if you pick up your cell phone, you may ignore the call. let me go back to that earlier point about people who just, you know, won't participate. maybe not so because they don't want to, because they just don't pick up the call. >> yeah, under the do not call law, you -- pollsters can still call.

and if the voters think you're on their side, they vote for you. >> in terms of ohio this year, thinkingtively controversial republican governor you've got in your state, thinking about ohio, of course, the subject of so much focus as a presidential swing state, thinking about your own re-election effort and especially all that money being spent from out-of-state groups against you. do you feel like populist issues are back at the center of ohio politics? >> sure, i do. of course, i do. they spent $5.1 million in attack ads against me, more than any other state in the country. it's clearly hurt because it's allot of negative stuff out there, probably funded by the oil companies, we don't really know, because this is politics 2012, unfortunately. and look back -- and you've talked about this on the show -- in 2010, republicans won everywhere around the country talking about jobs. what they did in ohio, they attacked collective bargaining rights, women's rights, voters' rights. and the voters saw, these people around on my side. these are people that want to undermine democracy, take away
