the oklahoma governor mary fallon on the phone in oklahoma city. governor, what are you being told about any fatalities or significant damage so far? >> we're actually right in the middle of our storm. the fire engines just went off a few minutes ago here at the capital city a few minutes ago. we're still tracking all our storms. we don't have any counts right now of any fatalities, but we do know we've had at least four tornadoes and there's still some right now on the ground in different areas of oklahoma. >> and, governor, what are the meteorologists telling you, your state of emergency management people telling you about the scope? how many tornadoes to expect if more than one and how broad the area where people need to be on alert? >> they need to be on alert right now and need to be watching the news and stay on top of this weather. it's a very dangerous storm. we anticipate the storm is going to last all night. it's a wide storm that goes clear from texas up to the kansas border. it's making a wide sweep through oklahoma. at one time a few m

violent storms are moving east this morning, after tornadoes killed at least nine people in oklahoma, kansas and arkansas. forecasters say the greatest threat of tornadoes is from the mississippi valley. at least five people were killed when twisters hit during rush hour. in kansas, two people died when high winds knocked a huge tree onto their van. two more were killed in arkansas and around dallas, severe thunderstorms dropped baseball sized hail and left 70,000 people without power. terrell brown has more. >> reporter: this was one of several tornadoes that roared through the suburbs of oklahoma city right after rush hour tuesday. the twisters turned over tanker trucks, tore down trees and leveled homes. >> i was expecting trees gone, maybe roof, but obviously totally, totally gone. had the house here, we had a three-car garage, two-story garage apartment, silo, another house. >> reporter: the car tim's wife just bought is now leaning against a tree but he's looking at what he didn't lose. >> the family is all safe and that's what matters. >> reporter: within hours of the tornado's

an ominous sight in the skies in oklahoma, where at least three twisters have been spotted.hes and warnings in effect in several states. >> i drove out here soon as i thought it would be safe. i was expecting trees gone, maybe a roof. a roof. but obviously, it's totally, totally gone. >> reporter: the city of joplin was decimated by a massive tornado sunday that has been upgraded from an ef-4 to an ef-5, with winds over 200 miles per hour. everywhere in joplin there were stories of desperate searches for the missing. for a little boy separated from his family. >> last seen in a bathtub. we have not been able to locate the bathtub. so we are out here trying to see if we can find out any information on where he might be at or see if we can find him in the debris. >> reporter: the one story being heard most often, neighbors helping neighbors. >> it come in on us, blowing the windows in on us, the boards. everything else, ceiling come in, pinned us down. i went to hollering for help and finally three men come by here and finally got the stuff off my back. >> reporter: the city o
