in my travels i spent time in oklahoma and texas, talked to all the va medical centers in every city that we visited and talked to a maternity care coordinator and the va and in some areas it was working effectively and others, it was very inconsistent, i will say, from medical center to medical center. one thing that seemed consistent now, and i will say both oklahoma and texas, if women are the largest growing cohort they are growing exponentially in oklahoma and texas and in all cases, every place i visited, these medical care coordinators were handling 200 to 300 cases. it is a huge caseload. some of them were only able to meet with the veteran at the beginning of the pregnancy and once after the pregnancy. some were doing more than that but i think we've got to take a hard look to make sure that these maternity care coordinators are in a place they can do their job and really be a partner to the woman who is going through her pregnancy and can be an advocate with community care doc who is handling them. i bring this up because with maternity care, it is all in the community. we
