this is the main entryway into jerusalem's old city. what the israeli government has done, what they announced overnight late thursday evening is that any muslim men below the age of 40 are banned from going into the old city, thus making their way to the mosque. that's where we are right now. i will zoom in. you can see some of the security presence. the israeli security force presence. it is heavy. we have seen several columns of heavily armed security forces pass by us. there is still some staging down the line. you have so many different forces as well. you have some that are fully armed and kitted out with riot gear, some in shirt sleeves and you have some in the middle. there are hundreds. we have seen several of these columns pass by. we are still several hours away from friday prayers. those who could not gain entry into the old city and into the mosque for the prayers, they will come out here into this plaza that has been barricaded off. they can come in here or go out on the street and pray. we are expecting hundreds. we have

as i mentioned i started in old city. figured i could get in at fourth and market at that hour of the day a few hours ago it was not ready. i presume that has changed. because i couldn't get in at fourth and market i eventually made my way up to around 12th and market where some secret service members were stationed. balls i had a media credential they were able to wand me, check my bags and wave me through. i got to city hall, saw other secret service. told them i was trying to get to the embassy suites on the parkway. they informed me i crossed into what they called a dirty zone, unswept area so they directed me to the nearest check point which was broad around cherry and race street. once i got to the main check point no problem, was able to get through, tsa was there, secret service was there. without incident, everyone was friendly. i moved right on through, no problem and then continued my walk along the parkway to the embassy suites. something i learned in this experience is that for example, you are starting your

in iraq air strikes hit the old city in the center of mosul for the first time and mosul under the islamicaq and levante since last year and they try to prevent casualties and 17 people are reported to have been killed. it's not clear who carried out the strike. and let's go live now to baghdad where al jazeera emran-khan and why is this significant? >> they avoided densely populated areas and the air strike we are told by diplomatic sources is it's likely to be highly targeted in an intelligence led operations but no more details than that, we reached out to iraqi army to try to find out who took part in this air strike, where it was iraqi airforce or coalition and they refused to comment on that as well but what this will show you is the limited usefulness of air strikes. what they really are good at is making i.s.i.l. and cutting off i.s.i.l. sorry and making them stick to the areas that they already control but in order to get rid of them from a place you need ground forces and you need close air support and that hasn't happened in most of this and like you say they have been in contro
