when i got to the olympic trials in '08, i felt like if i can make the olympic team, then all those middle-aged people out there can do what they thought they couldn't do because either they were too old or they didn't feel like they could find a balance in their life to do it. exercise and fitness are so important to me. it's always been a staple in my life, and when i go to the gym now, there's just so many things that i can't do because of no cartilage in my knee. the thing that bums me out the most is the fact that i can't do the things with my child that i want to do. i don't want an injury to dictate what i can and can't do in my life. basically, what's happening with my knee is i've lost cartilage so i have bone on bone. >> dara's been a competitive athlete her whole life, as you know, and that doesn't just go to swimming. that goes to everything that she does. she continues to have pain and swelling, and it limits what she can do. at this point in time, surgery is her only option. >> my daughter is eight years old, my stepkids are 14, and they are full of energy. as far as work goes, i

and the soviet national hockey teams in the 1980 winter olympics in lake placid. with the eyes of the world on the lake placid games, through shear grit and determination, an amateur team u.s.a. proudly did what many thought would be impossible by defeating the favored soviet team. . this event was more than an ordinary hockey game and for many it was one more proud reminder of what a determined and united america can accomplish. i grew up hearing this story firsthand from my dad who was in lake placid with his best friend doug, when the underdog team u.s.a. won and the crowds erupted in cheers. it was an awe-inspiring moment for our entire country and the world. our community in lake placid and the north country still celebrates this incredible occasion. this past weekend, lake placid was proud to host a reunion celebrating the 35th anniversary of this game and hosting the players from the 1980 team u.s.a. men's hockey team. our north country community is proud to be a home for this historic and inspiring event and i am proud to stand on the house floor today to c
