and now live to omar al saleh, in the south of the country. tell us what happened in the drone strike. >> we spoke to a number of sources and they are telling us that at least 10 people were killed in a number of attacks in and around the city of radar. we believe some of the attacks took place to the east of the city in el-mann areasa. some tell us they are suspected al qaeda fighters, others say they are tribesman. conflicting reports with regards to it. we know that al qaeda united with tribesman with fighting off the houthis. it's escalating. they are fighting the houthis, and with the drone attacks it will make things worse. to give you a wider context, the city is al qaeda stronghold, and we believe that the city witnessed the higher number of drone attacks over the last years. >> and meanwhile, whilst all this is going on, omar al saleh, what about the central government's attempt to form a new government of national unity. we are hearing that the houthis said that they are not going to take part in any government. >> well, political so

we can talk to omar al saleh, our correspondent in aden. you are also in the south of yemen, and there seems to be more and more bottle fronts in this -- battle fronts in this part of yemen in particular. >> yes, absolutely. the fierce battle front of the heaviest fighting that is taking place in yemen seems to be concentrated on badda. the development coming over the last 24 hours, and it's continuing right now, with clashes there. tribesman from win al-bayesa and outside joined farces they are battling the houthis. what exacerbated the continue there is the u.s. drone attacks on suspected al qaeda. tribesman there feel there is a sectarian aspect of the crisis much the shia houthis, rebels advancing, so there is a sectarian aspect. they are united with other tribes to repel it. what is important to highlight here is that for the first time the government forces seem to target the tribesman. they think tribesmen in albyeda, that there's an alliance with the government and backed by the u.s. drones. it will estimate and fuel the sectarian t

let's go to omar al saleh, who joins us now in southern yemen in aden. where you are right now is in the south of the country. we'll get to the situation in that area in a moment. let's talk about the north where the government is attacking and are they loading their advantage? >> they are. since sweeping through the capital and went south wards, they were met with no resistance. when they tried to go out towards other parts in the south, they were met by resistance. it is coming from al qaeda affiliated fighters, as well as tribesmen. now what we see in the last 24 hours, and in the early hours of today on saturday, increasing number of fighting and tribesman uniting to stop the houthis, this is sensitive for two reasons. the first, there's a tribal element. houthis taking their territory and tribal position. this is sensitive. the other thing is that they think this is a fight against sunnis, the shia houthis, rebels are advancing towards the sunni areas. they are uniting. what makes it worse is the fact that the u.s. drones hit at a suspected al qaeda

out of sanaa, omar al saleh is there to help us draw all of this together. omar, the prime minister takes over at a time when much of the country is in chaos, is he going to sort out the mess. what are his priorities? >> yes, he's facing a big challenge, because he needs to keep this country together. his challenges are huge, he needs to keep almost everyone happy, the political parties, and armed groups, including the houthis who took control of the capital, and large parts of the country, seven provinces in yemen are under control of the houthis. the president was named after a u.n. backed deal was signed in late september. he needs to convince the houthis with his decisions. they have a lot of power and sway in the capital. it remains to be seen, if they can hold on, because their power is estimated to be anywhere between 15 and 20,000. if they can keep control of the large part of the country is a big question. it's a hidden alliance between the houthis. the conviction in yemen is without the backing. the houthis would not have been able to leave the cap
