let's begin our coverage this hour with cnn's omar jimenez. he's breaking all the news for us out of columbia university in new york. omar, what's the latest? >> well, for just learning right now that the university has set a to pm eastern deadline for students to clear the encampment. otherwise, they will face suspension and ineligibility to finish the semester on good standing out part of the documentation that as we understand what's just distributed over the last hour or so once the students to sign onto an agreement that they will fall university policies. and in particular, i want to read a quote from this document saying in bold, if you do not identify yourself upon leaving and sign the form, now, you will not be eligible to sign and complete the semester in good standing if you do not leave by 2:00 p.m. you will be suspended pending further investigation. now, this comes as columbia university president minouche shafik released a statement this morning saying that essentially negotiations between students protesters and the university h

is that describes it will get back to ed in a moment as that develops, i want to go now to omar jimenez because he's at columbia in upper new york and omar columbia has laid down the law. everyone had to get out, get out of that tent encampment, which is in one corner of the quad is i saw it the other day but protesters, at least from what we understand, if not moved, what are you seeing right now? >> yes. so we're seeing a combination of things just for the viewers watching, overseeing behind this is a very small handful of protesters outside of columbia's campus. so these protesters are separate from the encampment led protests that we've been seeing on campus. and yes, as you mentioned, there was a two pn deadline today for those for those students to voluntarily leave that camp meant or face suspension, many did not leave. in fact, many of them chose to take part in a separate protests and circling that in kept men as one student told me to stop university officials from coming in even university professors and faculty linked arms at the entrance to the encampment in support of some

cnn's omar jimenez is joining me now. you had a conversation with the survivors. tell me about this legal battle yes >> look, as you mentioned, these are the final survivors of the 1921 tulsa race masker. they've been locked in this year's long court battle at this point, lower court is a court battle essentially for reparations. lower court dismissed the case. state high, the state supreme court agreed to hear this case and now today they have a chance to actually make their case, which of course is a huge step. and if you haven't been doing the math, these survivors are all 109 years old, so time of course, is of the essence here, essentially what they argue is that what happened over 100 years ago, still having ripple effects on their lives and had ripple effects on their lives over the course of it. and that the city of tulsa, among others were complicit in those ripple effects. and as you mentioned, i spoke with one of those survivors, 109 year-old viola ford fletcher, and she told me that what happened in 1921 isn't ancient history to her. take a listen. >>
