the ombudsman roles are really myriad. complaint investigators, and recently we've been monitoring the closures of both skilled nursing and assisted living and just see our role as a monitor of relocation is to make sure that they are assurance to mitigate transfer trauma. there is no suffering in the new facility, that there is continuity of care in terms of provider. we had an earlier event in early 2014 mission bay nursing home closed down and everyone was sent -- all mono lingual cantonese in nursing home medicare were sent out of county san jose, alameda. in our small office we called the family members and it was disaster. families were unable to visit daily. with the university mount announcement, i said to my staff and myself, we're not just going to monitor relocationses. we're going to take a stand and say, this place must not close. it must not close and in the future other nursing home that close must not close. so, i have some recommendations. we will continue to monitor where individuals in university mount g

as an ombudsman specializing in long-term care, i think l tools are available, are ones that i don't necessarily know about. i think we need better eviction protections for individual who are being flipped out because the building is flipped over, because they have nowhere to go. we don't want a homeless population of seniors who have been aging in place in apartments or small four-unit flats that are under the ellis act where the owner says -- and that's a longer discussion. but i think that because the placements in nursing home have diminished and the placements, affordable and low-income placements in assisted living have diminished, there is this other trend of displacing the elderly rent control person from apartment, they're all converging in one big kind of collision the way i see it, and there has to be long-term care policy and a commitment from all the supervisors and other departments and the mayor's office to put their heads together not only for this present -- not only for this present constituted board of supervisors and present mayor, but into the future as well as a
