as a fed-ex truck slmas head-on into a tour bus carrying students visiting a northern california college. the latest as the kron-4 news at 11 starts now. a deadly crash between a charter bus and a fed--ex semi -truck this evening on interstate five -- about 25- miles from chico. nine people killed and 32 others injured. according to the c-h-p, the driver of the fed-ex truck, apparently tried to avoid a passenger car, but hit the car anyway, crossed the center divider and crashed head-on into the bus. kron-4's philippe djegal is live in the studio tonight. with more on this devastating crash. philippe.? pam. the c-h-p says the drivers of both the fed-ex truck and the tour bus are among the dead. investigators say the other seven people killed are all passengers on the bus, but its still unclear whether those were teenage students. the freeway was shut down in both directions -- and the c-h-p says this area will not reopen until seven oc'lock tomorrow morning, while officers complete their investigation. police on scene say, the 46- passengers on the bus were students from three different

ex-im bank. my focus is not on this particular candidate but we need to ask questions about the way the ex-im bank operates, what it does and how it does it and i hope we'll make some significant changes when we get to reauthorization, the reauthorization debate in the fall. first of all i should point out that this is an institution, the ex-im bank that has -- gives rise to a very substantial taxpayer risk. it is large and it is growing. in 2007, ex-im bank's total exposure was $57 billion. today it is almost precisely twice that amount, $113 billion, and the ex-im bank would like to increase that exposure further. in addition, in 2013 the g.a.o. after doing an audit found multiple weaknesses in ex-im's internal risk management processes, failures to account for changing environments that could lead to higher losses, lapses that would not be acceptable in fully private institutions. another point that i want to make is i hope we don't kid ourselves about this, mr. president, i know sometimes people suggest to the contrary but the fact is taxpayers are systematically subsidizing the can ex-im bank

los angeles area students were headed to humboldt state on a college tour when a fed-ex truck slammed this morning some of the survivors who escaped injury are resting at a relief shelter in orland. tara moriarty is live at the shelter with how the community is coming together to face this tragedy. >> reporter: well, we speak to a red cross volunteer earlier this morning. she had tears in her eyes when she came out. she had been up all night with the students there. this is a traumatic experience for everyone involved. she brought stuffed animals for the high school students. she realized they were in high school but just wanted them to have something to hold onto until their parents were able to get here. you can see this is the red cross shelter that's a couple of miles from the crash site. the horrific tragedy unfolded after 5:30 last night when a southbound fed-ex truck crossed the grassy median and slammed into the bus head on. both the truck and the bus drivers died as well as five students and three chaperons. witnesses say the impact sounded like a series of explosions. the bu

we begin with the tragic bus crash on highway 5. a fed ex truck, a charter bus loaded with high school students and fiery head on collision that killed ten and injured dozens. while investigators continue to piece together what went wrong the nbc bay area investigative unit reviewed state records detailing the history of that section of roadway. >> reporter: the fatal crash involving fed ex and tour bus company occurred roughly 150 miles north of san francisco along i-5. there have been just nine accidents along that stretch of roadway since 2008, the majority happened within a mile of where this recent crash occurred. the investigative unit learned head on collision along that road is very rare. the only other accident caused by a driver losing control and heading into on coming traffic happened more than ten miles away back in 2008. according to records we obtained from the federal motor carrier safety administration fed ex freight cited more than 600 times for driving dangerously nationwide in two years, nearly half were for speeding and
