influence ona huge literature, both in the united states, and abroad as well. many well-known writers continue to cite her as one of the primary influences. she died in 1947, and in 1943 she had made a well which had a few restrictions in it. one of which was she did not want her letters to be published or quoted in full or in part. that was in the same part of the well which did not want her books adapted into films, plays, etc.. she wanted to control to some degree how people experienced her work. she wanted her novel to be the way she was known to the public. this meant for years that people do not know about her letters. if they did know about it, and they had the opportunity, they could not write about it very clearly. they could summarize her letters, but they could not ever quote them. and has been a huge problem barrier and understanding who she was, what she was about. she left behind at least 3000 letters that we know about now. those letters are all over the world in different repositories. but we are fortunate that it is collections are here in nebr

so as ona said, i'm sasha purpura, executive director of food for free.we're baylesed in central square -- based in central square. for over 34 years, we basically go around to retail food stores, wholesalers, farmers' markets, and we collect a lot of really good, healthy, edible food that would otherwise go to waste, and we bring it to the folks who most need not just food, but access to healthy food. so we bring it to food pantries and meal programs, shelters, youth programs serving over 25,000 people. so food waste is bad, right? it's not good to waste food, and where we can control it we should control it. and one of the places we can control it is at the consumer level where a tremendous amount, it's actually shocking the percentage -- which i don't have -- of food waste that comes at the consumer level. we can control how much we buy, eating leftovers, how we store it, etc. but i would like to suggest that at scale, at other levels surplus food, extra food that could presidentially go to waste is inevident -- potentially go to waste is inevitable. i

as ona mentioned, last year we started a partnership with harvard university.there dining services serve 14 dining halls and i believe it's about 138,000 meals a week to students. buffet style. if any of you ever had a large thanksgiving dinner, there's typically left overs. it's hard to know exactly how much food to make. just like at thanksgiving, if you're serving it and you're bringing in a bunch of people, you don't want people scraping the last bit of mash potato off that plate. if i'm harvard and i have students paid to eat, there can't be two french fries and half soup, they expect to eat whatever folks ate earlier in the day. they have done a tremendous job at predicting and understanding how much food to prepare but it is inevitable that they're going to have extra food at the end of each meal. of that 138,000 meals, we pick up approximately 2000 meals a week. that's the small percentage of waste. however that is enough to feed about 100 people three meals a day for an entire week. that's fantastic. we take that food and get it to folks who live in mo
