♪ >> melissa: that was oprah winfrey, of course. she needs no introduction.campaigning for stacey abrams, who is taking the stage right now. she is of course running for governor in that seat. she would be the first female black governor of any state if she won this race. oprah winfrey saying there that she is independent, not part of any party, that she was not asked to go down there. she's not testing the waters were thinking about running herself. she simply has been watching stacey abrams, and she picked up the phone and found her phone number and asked if she could come out and campaign for her. i want to bring it out to the couch, here, because oprah did some very interesting things with that speech. she is truly a master. she made the message of her speech, i would say -- and i don't know who would disagree with me -- about the vote. about going in voting, and how important that is. how everybody has the same power in the booth as everyone else. she did not talk about anything negative. she did not talk about -- i mean, you talk about campaigning posit

for oprah to come to georgia. and she's a larger than life figure and an incredible person and done a lot for a lot of people. she comes to georgia and she basically acts like no progress has been made and we're on the verge of having this guy, brian kemp oversee mass lynchings of african-americans. how is that a positive engagement on politics? >> i think what she's doing is acknowledging the fact that brian kemp is suppressing over 53,000 votes according to the a.p., in georgia. and this is a long history of suppressing votes in the south by conservatives, by republicans. in 2005, the head of the rnc apologized for embracing the southern strategy. where the republican party embraced racism from white people to get votes. that was what the republican party tried to do. that's where this all comes from. that was their strategy. though he apologized for it in 2005 there's no proof they stopped doing it. cue donald trump calling mexicans murderers and rapists. >> laura: let's say in georgia. because i think this is

>> charlie: no, oprah is an entity unto herself.t south carolina come even democrats weren't sure about this guy barack obama. he had that funny name. they were like "this isn't really working." and she headlined an event at usc in columbia. she packed that place. 30 plus thousand people showed up. it was the first really big mega rally. that was the moment where even democrats in the south were "wait a minute, maybe we have to take a second look at the sky. maybe he is for real. that was the turning point in that primary. but, after oprah, celebrities don't work. they don't help. just ask and lucrative. she had all the celebrities in 2016. i think, if anything, it annoys people and turn them off. >> harris: despite the example he gave with the obama's and her specific support for them, i think oprah leaves into a political category that many of the celebrities can ever lean i. i think it's what she did for books. if oprah read your book -- and what she did for the auto industry by giving away cars. she has that ability to do that.
