hands down, 10 times maybe 100 times better. >> reporter: only seven optometry schools in the u.s.ave this type of technology. with midwestern university in glendale boasting one of the largest labs. just ask megan, a third-year student doctor. >> when i was 13 in eighth grade, i had an eye exam and my eye doctor was phenomenal. and she really inspired me. she explained everything she was doing and i was like, i could totally do this for the rest of my life. >> reporter: megan as having the vr head to be able to look at the back of the eyes makes health complications like diabetes, hypertension, glaucoma and cancer much easier. >> it's a difficult skill to learn. it normally takes 3 to 6 months. having this anytime we wanted to get more practice in it has honestly been a game changer. >> reporter: kelsey harrigan, also in her third year, says her father, a retired optometrist, is her inspiration. and have a new technology like this only fuels her passion. >> i like the lifestyle that you get with optometry as far as balancing work and home. it's so interesting. the eye tells you so
