is oracle one of those companies? >> i think that with oracle, that is difficult.umber one, the distribution will be the same no matter what. oracle has to innovate at a higher rate. that's what we've not seen oracle do in the last decade. >> salesforce has been a big acquirer. how do you continue to buy companies without losing focus or getting bloated? >> acquisitions are hard no matter who you are. i can tell you firsthand after doing 25 acquisitions over the last five years, acquisitions are hard. but you can transform your company through acquisitions. they bring incredible people into your company, and if you can nurture them, you can get results. >> what are the challenges when you buy another big company? >> the number one thing is that, as a ceo, you have to choose what you will be in. i only have so much time. where i spend my time is super important. i kind of divide my time into four quadrants. in a certain quadrant, my transformation quadrant, that is where i spend the majority of my time. the things that, if i do not do them, they will not get done. t

we have oracle earnings right now. this is a big name. cheryl casone how they did. >> a big beat report coming out of oracle. it is moving up over 4% right now in after-hours trading. estimate earnings per share was 68 cents. company coming in at 69. 1.9 billion in revenue. 1.6 billion was the estimate. talking about cloud. bring this to you, the board of directors declaring a quarterly cash dividend, 12 cents a share of common stock. talking a lot about the cloud. oracle has been trying to move the business into away from software services or at least software and move more into the cloud. looks like it is working. of that piece of that overall revenue number, liz, 7.3 billion was software and cloud revenue. that is very, very strong number. that gained for cloud bookings. cloud bookings in the second quarter, this is what we're talking about right now, a gain of 140%. really pushing the cloud. looks like payoff is there. stocks are moving 4% higher. >> should mention, this company is not a big beat, but the company missed earnings estim

. >> it was oracle's results that got me thinking. up 10% after the better than expected results and if you look over here at the chart, i mean, the stock basically, this is a 15 year chart, a few percent away now from the all-time highs made in the internet bubble in 2000. it got me thinking about the other times at the guy, the horse men, microsoft and cisco, the largest market cap company in the world in 1999 or 2000. so cisco, to me, it's been a big lagger. and now up a lot, 23% this year. and that sounds great but 100% off the 2009 lows. the s&p 500, 200%. when you think about it, some of it is peers. it's a monster year but getting back up and then the other is intel. up 40% this year. one of the things that's interesting is well off the 2000 highs but all three companies i just mentioned, oracle the ceo, larry elson just replaced himself with two other people. just there as the chairman and then had intel, had a new ceo a year ago and then obviously, microsoft stepped down and dell has taken over. new blood telling new stories

they're still well off the 2000 highs but all three of the companies i just mentioned, oracle, the ceo, larry ellison is still there as the chairman and inobstetrical had a ceo a year ago and obviously he has stepped down. but there's new blood telling new stories and the stocks have been working. that brings me to cisco. this is a disaster if you look back over the last ten years it's been in a tight range. i want to say this the three prior names i talked about they all traded about a market multiple about 15 or 16 times next year's earnings. cisco 13 times. something is not resinating here. the story isn't being told correctly. when you think about this this looks like a coiled spring to me. if there was ever a reason for investors to buy this stock you can have this thing up at 40 in a heart beat. here's the thing. i don't know what john chambers is doing or not doing. the quarter they just reported was perceived to be better than expected. somebody else needs to tell the story and do a new restructuring and get this thing going and if that happens in 2015 this could be a moon shot

hewlett packard, oracle, ibm, s.a.p. in that group. they're selling old stuff. >> and, you know, interestingly enough, old tech has been a winning trade this year. a lot of these names we have, specifically their dividend yields. will this trend continue in 2015 if the fed does raise rates? >> very good point. these would have been the victims in terms of the nature of tech in the sector. as you said, it's been a good trade this year because they've used their balance sheets. basically, what's the return story? what they haven't been able to do, though, is generate growth. they're always looking for growth and that's what the new guys are delivering. >> tech, in fact, does tend to outperform in a rising rate environment. which parts of tech do you think could perhaps do well in 2015? >> first of all, we must remember that tech is not just for christmas. and what we're seeing from oracle is a story around -- this is a most critical time in the tech sector to be making your sales, for all of them right now would be rushing to be winning.

and oracle we think is well positioned. they have a habit of moving the company where it needs to be as we saw with their acquisitions over the last really 15 years. they move in a very methodical fashion. so it's one of those names that it just keeps going up in your portfolio. you buy it well and it just continues to climb higher. it's a name that we feel pretty confident that we can buy and it will continue to work for us for the foreseeable future. >> we know that health care storks have been real strong winners in this past year. you've chosen for the new year a reit managed care company, senior housing properties trust. tell us about why this is attractive to you. >> one of the things that the health care law changes did was it sort of cleared the mist away and for those who are approaching retirement such a wave with the baby boomers, it created an opportunity for those in the health care especially in the senior care area to begin to you know position themselves where the demographic trends are most favorable and se
