marc: well, oracle has a different business.n my way out of oracle, the cfo at the time, took me into his office and said, marc, it is a good thing you are leaving. he said, it will be hard for us to do a brand-new technology model and business model because everything from the way you deliver the software to the way you recognize the revenue is completely different in cloud computing. emily: you and larry ellison have had a rivalry over the years and most recently a partnership. what is your relationship really like behind the scenes? marc: larry and i have a great relationship. i saw him sunday night where we were hugging and kissing. emily: frienemies? marc: frienemies. we have been friends for 30 years. so that has been very exciting. look, i do not think -- i have had some great mentors. people i am thrilled to have. my parents, my grandparents, but also as you mentioned steve jobs and colin powell. dramatically influenced me in philantrophy. in business, i don't think anyone has influenced me more than larry ellison. i wou

companies, if anyone is going to win, i think it is oracle. cory: larry ellison said we are going to do, we just did a billion dollars. that is what salesforce says they are going to do. we will see who has the better year. are these apple to apple comparisons? brian: oracle won 200 million in revenue, new business. 200 million in new business in the third quarter and the fourth quarter, that is going to be 300 million. that is a great number. that is brand-new business. and in calendar 2015, it will be over a billion dollars. winning new business, they can't help where they came from in terms of they are smaller in the cloud. in terms of going out winning business, oracle is doing a phenomenal job. cory: what role do acquisitions play? brian: a lot of this they've made small acquisitions. fusion has been the driver of the business, that is largely an oracle product. there are acquisitions along the way, but they've been working on fusion for nine years. cory: is this quarter good news or bad news for salesforce? brian: i would say for the clo

scarlet: oracle and adobe reporting earnings.t to focus on oracle because it is not participating in the rise of overall shares today. growth from licenses has been slowing at oracle, as customers switch to cloud inscriptions. -- subscriptions. only 5% of revenue is showing great look for a strong dollar to be a part of the narrative as well. a lot of analyst forecasts indicate that oracle has been giving guidance that underestimates the direct from the stronger dollar. look at the bloomberg terminal this allows us to show you how often oracle surprises when it comes to the revenue line. overall analysts are looking for a 2% growth last quarter, and in general this is the trend. in the last four quarters, they tend to disappoint when it comes to revenue. in terms of what it is projecting overall an increase but only 2% and the average surprise they have reported in their sales have been 1% over this time that we trekked. -- terracked. that gives you a sense of what they are dealing with. alix: one of the big issues in talking to

oracle says it is growing that business by 30% over the same period last year. mind you, this is a small fractional part of their business. only about 4% right now. it is a huge deal. in the statement and earnings the founder of the company larry ellison, said specifically the company is on pace to earn a billion dollars in cloud-based computing revenues for are this year. he called out salesforce.com one of their main competitors, by name in saying that this was a race between us and them and we think we're going to win, in essence, oracle is going to beat out salesforce.com. if you want to know where the energy and focus is it is in this cloud computing. >> all right, dom, thank you very much. >>> apple is reportedly planning to launch an online television service that could be another step in further shaking up an industry already in flux. as first reported by the "wall street journal," apple is in talks with some major networks to offer consumers a slimmed-down bundle as soon as fall. shares of apple rose almost 2% today to $127 a share. apple television's a

brian: oracle and showed us they did a great job delivering on eps.hey met the street and we have to remember they gave guidance in constant currency and they said the impact will be four cents in the quarter. it turned out to be -$.06. it was greater than expected and they still met eps. revenue fell short. currency was up 6%, at the midpoint with their guidance. i think it was actually a solid quarter and cloud was the theme. cory: i would agree. eps is a more fudge-able number and i would agree, x currency up 6% is an improvement. brian: they've got a few cycles. they have a database cycle. we will see that more in a fiscal 2016. 12c cycle will kick in. they are making a big push into the cloud. this quarter, up over 30% in revenue in the cloud business. they have raised their outlook for the fourth quarter in cloud. cloud is another big cycle and i think they are doing a great job. it is a transition. when i look at the mega i.t. companies, if anyone is going to win in the cloud, i think it is oracle. cory: larry ellison said we are going to do, w
