that said, oracle is late on this, you know, oracle, the two big breakaways from oracle, sales force and net suite, so now oracle is trying to buy net suite and coming up against sales force, they say, has their big competition in terms of concept there, right? so it's tough for them to catch up. amazon is way ahead in terms of that. their culture is built on the cloud, whereas oracle's isn't quite yet. >> larry ellison in his keynote took direct aim at amazon, as we just heard, but it was sales force, shelly, that unveiled einstein deep learning hours before the event kicked off. how should we be reading between those lines? >> truthfully, this entire industry is fighting not each other, but the future. because where we are right now is where power was when everybody had a different kind of power company and there wasn't a municipal grid. at a certain point these companies are going to have to offer more than just storage and computing power, whether it's plug and play machine learning, plug and play tool sets, you're going to have to be able to run your business and a normal person

we talked to oracle ceo mark hurd earlier today on bloomberg tv and asked how oracle is reaching thecustomers. >> they donate hardware or software on premises. >> people with microsoft, google, amazon, what do you offer there. we are now in this show really highlighting our infrastructure capabilities. it is better security than anyone on the planet. >> they really break it out with a different model. what does this mean for oracle? the great thing is the major supplier to the cloud is ourselves. we have processing capabilities. are justns we believe as good as they are across the rest of the city. it is one place competitors might -- >> there is a bit of the issue in the cloud, you have to invest before you get revenue. if you went back to margins or the sass past is this, we are at 39%. in the last quarter, we are 62. we invested in a lot of data centers up front. we put a lot of capital and. >> there are other companies that have had big adjustments. closed thee just cloud revenue and licensed business that grew 16%. that is the way to look at the combination of the two together.

we do own oracle. this might be a good entry point for investors. >> do you like what they are doing in terms of the turn around that they are undergoing here? >> you mean like crazy billionaire at the wheel? i think that there is some truth to that and i think there is a lot of egos getting in the way. you saw sales force ceo speak about how they are the biggest swinging market caps out there. so they are taking shots at each other. i do think you need to own the space. i think oracle is a great name and will continue to be serial acquirerer. >> what is your take on the stock? >> they have no choice to be doing what they are doing. database is immature. so their move into platform as a service is growing dramatically. they are still not in the areas that people need to be. if you look at the stock the valuation isn't cheap. i don't think there is a ton of confidence. the net suite acquisition people are shaking heads a bit. it is a stock to be neutral on until proven otherwise. >> looking at dividend

brad: i want to bring up oracle. they acquired -- what does that deal to oracle?re they a stronger competitor now? marc: i don't really think so. oracle is making a desperation move to boost their cloud revenue. andy owns half of netsuite he basically said i want that and now he will be able to boost his cloud revenue and make is $10 billion goal. brad: you are friends with larry ellison. when you say things like desperation move on live tv -- tbd you get a call or a text later in the day? marc: i do. my relationship with larry ellison is far more eternal and enduring. i view it -- and he does as well because he taught me this. brad: he doesn't pull his punches either. marc: i will tell you how i look at it. business is a lot like tennis. you get on the court with your friends, you play as hard as you can, you get upset, you get off the court and go have lunch and have a glass of wine and remember how much you love them. i love larry ellison. he is a great mentor to me and a great friend and probably there is no one in the industry who has done more for me than la

oracle's open world of that is underway in san francisco.positioning themselves in the crowd department. the ceonson spoke with today about this push into the cloud. >> because of what you might churchly think of as the midmarket or small and medium business that we would have never had the opportunity to go into, you have these companies now that have the opportunity to get the best and most advanced technology in the world with no i.t. staff, they don't need hardware, they don't need a data center. some of the companies you see around us here that i'm sure the viewers cannot see -- pandora, lyft, etc. -- really started with some of the same technology straight out of the cloud. interesting, the infrastructure and you talk about, having your own cloud. what do you offer there that puts you head-to-head with others? >> our strategy has been to build a whole suite of capabilities, starting at the application level, supplemented by a platform. the platform is everything from the database to tools, everything that is not an app or infrastructur
