cnn's oren liebermann has more on the case from jerusalem. >> reporter: sarah netanyahu is the constanther prime minister husband, always by his side, whether it's a first visit to india or welcoming close friends to israel. the people of israel love us. and like the media one half of the power company in israeli politics, netanyahu's third wife regularly hosts world leaders at the prime minister's residence in jerusalem. always in the picture. this time, she has the headlines all to herself. sarah netanyahu's trial on charges of fraud and breach of trust is set to begin. the trial, focusing on the alleged misuse of taxpayer dollars at the couple's official residence. the case is all about catered meals. prosecutors say sarah netanyahu had ordered approximately $100,000 in meals. and spent thousands of dollars more on high-end chefs, illegal under israeli law when there's already a chef in the residence. she's maintained her innocence. her lawyer called the indictment false and whit's first time in israel and in the world that the wife of a leader is put on trial for food entries. there

and our correspondent oren liebermann is live for us this evening in jerusalem. en, you tell me. what's the reaction you're hearing there? >> reporter: brooke, we've heard so many responsibilities from israeli politicians, leaders, as well as jewish community leaders who either live here or were here for some sort of vacation or some sort of trip. and the sentiment from awful them is very similar. an attack on a jewish community anywhere is an attack on the entire jewish community everywhere. and that is at the center of the messages we're seeing. it was the middle of sabbath services in pittsburgh, seven hours ahead here, just the time zone differences. it was coming toward the end of the sabbath. it had already been a difficult weekend here with a sharp escalation between israel and gaza, and that was already weighing oefn everyone's mind. then just as the sabbath was coming to an end news of the shooting at the pittsburgh synagogue came through here and that is when the messages started coming out including this one from israeli prime minister benjamin netanyah

. >> joining me now is cnn's correspondent in jerusalem, oren liebermann.mmunity had close ties to israel. i was listening to someone who had just gotten back from there. how are people in israel reacting to this tragedy? >> reporter: alex, especially at times like this, after a shooting attack like this at a synagogue, those ties are stronger than ever and there will always be that connection between jews living overseas whether in suru.s., south ameri europe, and wells, it is put on display. and let me put this in context of the weekend here. it was already a tense weekend, with a sharp escalation between israel and gaza. alex, you have reported here, you know the feeling that the pressure it puts on the leaders here. it was the end of the sabbath, the end of what was supposed to be a day of rest, when news of the shooting reached israel here, and that's when israeli leaders found out. it was moments after the sabbath ended. just a short while after the attack that prime minister benjamin netanyahu put out the statement you heard there. and we have heard

cnn international correspondent oren liebermann is live for us in jerusalem. more about his thoughts. >> reporter: it was already a difficult weekend here in israel and across the country, and that was because of a sharp escalation, we saw, between israel and gaza over the weekend, and specifically over the sabbath. that was already on the minds of israeli leaders. just as the sabbath was ending, news of the shooting came to israel. so it was coming out of a day of rest. coming out of what already a tense weekend. that israeli leaders suddenly had this to deal with, this horrific synagogue shooting. and that just moments after word of the shooting and the news of what had happened, came to israel, and came to the prime minister's office, here in jerusalem, we got this statement, from israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu. >> i was heart broken and appalled by the murders in a pittsburgh synagogue today. the entire people of israel grieve with the families of the dead. we stand together with the jewish community of pittsburgh, we stand together with the ame

. >> oren liebermann is following these developments. he is near the gaza/israel border. oren, what is the latest with these continued rockets fired? >> reporter: that rocket fire continues to this hour both in northern gaza near where we are right now, we're just outside of northern gaza, and in southern gaza as well. just an hour ago go rocket alerts went off very close to where we're standing as well as along southern gaza. the israeli military in response carrying out a number of air strikes. in a briefing about an hour and a half ago, israel said at this point nearly being -- rocketed have been fired, a number have been intercept intercepted. in response israel has carried out a series of nearly 100 air strikes targeting advanced weapons manufacturing sites and what they have described as terror and military sites belonging to hamas and other militant groups. this escalation last night is still going on. there may be behind the scenes efforts to try to get both sides back from the brink, but if so, we have not seen the fruits of this effort. it has been an intense lon

cnn correspondent oren liebermann is following the story live this hour in jerusalem and, oren, israeli authorities, security forces there looking for the suspect. what more are we learning about the attacker as of this hour? >> reporter: george, there is still right now a very large-scale manhunt going on to try to find the suspect here. 23-year-old palestinian, to find him and arrest him and bring him to justice after authorities say he went into a factory, his place of work, in fact, shot and killed two israelis and wounded one more. authorities have gone to his village, to his town near the palestinian city in the northern west bank. they have marked off his home for demolition and arrested a number of those who knew him and brought them in for questioning to find out if he acted alone or if he was working as some sort of larger group. but the key is now more than 24 hours after the attack, where is he? and that's why we're seeing this manhunt conducted not only by the israeli military but also with the assistance of police and the israel security agency. all of this started around
