first thing i want to show you is the peak wind gusts in the past 24 hours, 65 miles per hour for orinda, mount hamilton 61 miles per hour, livermore 58 and petaluma had a 56 mile-per- hour wind gust. the wind advisory which included a lot bigger area earlier today now includes the delta through 7:00 tonight and north bay hills is still under a wind advisory until 10:00 tonight. let's talk about the winds as they are now. in oakland where it was so windy yesterday and last night, winds are calming down but still pretty breezy here sustained at 20 miles per hour, much less wind in the south bay and fairfield checking in with the north wind at 26 miles an hour. the wind advisory is in effect for five more hours in the north bay hills. coming up we'll talk about the weekend and the next rain chance and a little flavor of the holidays in about 10 minutes. the nightmare >>> a b.a.r.t. computer glitch left thousands of people stranded for hours during the morning commute. here's a look at the nightmare from this morning. commuters were either standing waiting at b.a.r.t. stations or stuck in t

we also went to an accident over on highway 24 near orinda. i want to show you that vehicle. that was a solo vehicle. chp tells us in that situation the man in his 30s was driving eastbound on highway 24 a little before 1:50 this morning when for some reason he lost control, hit the guardrail, went over the guardrail and hit a wall and a pole. he was actually trapped for a short time. firefighters had to go out there and cut the roof off the vehicle. the good news he was talking when he was taken to the scene. his injuries are described as moderate. back out here live in livermore, roads are wet. not too bad. and the rain is falling. that is good news. but again we are seeing flooding around the bay area. we are seeing wet roads and really at this point chp telling everyone to slow down and give yourself a little extra time. live in livermore claudine wong ktvu channel 2 news. >>> the wet weather made for an especially slow commute on the new bay bridge. water did start to pool at the foot of the new span yesterday afternoon just past the toll plaza. road crews closed one lan

more rainfall totals just from today, orinda in livermore, more than an inch of rainfall. how about that? redwood city half an inch, and san jose nearly half inch of rainfall. and speaking of livermore, did some math for you. 2.5" of rain for the first 321 days of the year and in the past two days, you have had more than half of that, 1.31" so a lot of rain in a short amount of time. but we're kind of wrapping things up now. the big low pressure system that swung on through is racing off to the south and east. we'll still see some rain over the sierra tomorrow. we'll see rain down toward arizona. watch out, phoenix, they are going to have flooding in two days. actually this storm become a nor'easter on the over side of the country bringing snow on thanksgiving to other parts of the country. for us, we are winding things down. the rain is pretty much done. the high pressure dome that stuck around too long is going to come back for several days and we'll be dry from tomorrow all the way through the weekend through about the first half of next week, although there is a rain c

traffic backed up past the junction of 24 and 13 going eastbound and westbound all the way through orinda. a car caught fire in the eastbound bore of the caldecott tunnel just before 10 a.m. the tunnel started filling with smoke and people just got out of their cars and walked out of the tunnel. >> people were able to evacuate safely. the ventilation system turned on and everybody was out without any significant injury. >> reporter: the ventilation system did kick in but it was still a very scary situation for some drivers caught inside. here's how one described it. >> i just was two cars behind the fire. the car was burning. a chp officer told us to stay in the car, close the windows. and then explosions started. the car exploded. big bangs. so i got out and walked all the way out. it was smoky in there, it was terrible, really. >> reporter: 8 people were taken to the hospital with smoke inhalation. they are expected to be okay. the chp says that was done out of an abundance of caution. in oakland, anne makovec, kpix 5. >> the last time a major fire happened in one of those tunnels was 2

difference will be on the opposite side for drivers this morning heading eastbound from oakland to orinda. open on this weekend on saturday, and it is already drawing heavy praise from caltrans to commuters who say it looks gread. the first cars went through -- great. the first cars went through at 4:00 a.m. the project cost $3 million under budget. it took three years and ten months to complete. for first time in 50 years, caltrans will no longer have to manually force the flow of traffic every day using the middle bore. this is a huge accomplishment. no major injuries in the reconstructiontion. you will see the modern ventilation system. the fans you will see. there's also other safety features. but speaking with commuters, they are excited. >> next thing i know i'm going through this wonderful fourth bore. it's wider. it's straighter. it's flat. caltrans did a great job. i can't tell you how happy this makes me. >> reporter: no hassle with the merging, no wondering whether or not there will be two tunnels at the end of your journey. that will be huge for a lot of commuters. in terms of
