((sara))the report ranks the bay area as the 6th most polluted areas in the short term...meaning 24 hours a day our air very unhealthy. this is all according to the american lung association's "state of the air" annual report, which just came out today. as you can see here the bay area has been rated 13th worst by ozone, 10th by year round and again á6thá worst by short-term.the report also breaks down the most polluted counties within the bay. alameda county, contra costa county and santa clara county all received an "f" grade for ozone pollution. the letter grade is measured by the number of unhealthy air days per year and if that number matches the ozone standard...which those three counties air did not. many are probably wondering how california could have the worst pollution with all the strict environmental regulations our state enforces. the report says without our laws on tailpipe pollution and eliminating coal fired powerplants our state would be far worse off.the lung associ

here's oakland, orinda, walnut creek, it looks to be lighter.nne makovec which we'll check in momentarily is also going to show us what it feels like out there. because it's been relentless all night and early this morning. east of san jose, a lot of the moisture is heading. so the south bay not as much. the santa cruz mountains also going to see a lot of rain. a lot of this is hovering along that coastline and north of the golden gate bridge. so let's check in now with anne makovec. >>> reporter: it looks like your doppler is pretty accura, neda. you said there's a break coming to san francisco which means we're probably going to have a little bit of a break here, which is really good because it's been coming down steadily all night long, all morning long. nothing crazy. it's not a drenching rain but it has been very steady. that's the difficulty, because the roadway really has not had a chance to dry out and won't for many hours to come. now, here at the toll plaza, you can see most of the lanes, they are at a crawl, which is typical for this

rain totals away from downtown san francisco, picked up about 1.17 inches, just over an inch for orinda, but by the time you get to san jose, just 1/3 of an inch. this really petered out north to ut so, although we all got -- to south, although we all got wet. there are moderate scattered cells of rain coming down for the night. vallejo has widely scattered showers. so does martinez. in the south bay we have a big hole over san jose in the shadow from the direction this atmospheric river is aiming at california. it doesn't get as much rain. so as a result, we'll look for more of this overnight tonight. there will be a little let-up the next few hours, but still flood advisories until 10:00 for south central sonoma, well, where you see it in blue there. for what's next, it just continues. tonight we've got more rain on the way, especially between midnight and 6 a.m. tomorrow morning, i'll tell you how much and what to expect in a few minutes. >>> in marin the chp cruiser had to be towed out of a ditch after it ran off highway 1 near 1. >>> farther north they're keeping a close eye on the

( darya ) in the south bay... 100 people are now left without a home.. after a massive fire burned through an apartment building in san jose. we first brought you this story yesterday as breaking news. it happened at the summer wind apartments on mclaughlin avenue. those inside say they were planning to jump or climb down ropes because there was no other way out. firefighters were able to rescue 20 people. fifteen people were injured and four were hospitalized due to smoke inhallation. mayor sam liccardo toured the scene. he says the city is ready to help. ( darya ) the building passed inspection last fall... and there were smoke alarms inside. but the apartment was built before water sprinklers were

this is video from oakland and orinda in the east bay... to san jose in the south bay. with more precipitation on the way forecasted for wednesday. the fast moving hail storm caught many residents in the city of alameda by surprise. and many long time residents say they have never seen hail come down quite so intensely before. many people were worried that the hail would damage their vehicles... but it wasn't enough to cause any damage... the size of the hail were the about the size of frozen peas...... white crusty patches could be seen piled up in several shady spots for several hours....until the sun hit...and melted them away. have some rainfall increasing for san francisco extending across the bay bridge out toward oakland, orindaave been picking up. as we back the maps out here, there's the coverage increasing here for san francisco, south san francisco, and it looks like we have some more development just offshore, as well. south bay not too much rainfall just yet but probably by early saturday morning, that will be somewhat of a different story. here's the overall weather pattern. you can see the continuous band of moisture in the bay area extending to the southwest all towards hawaii. now, the main portion providing the lift to generate the heavy rain is tucked in right here at this front of the once this approaches our coastline, later on this evening and early saturday morning, you will definitely notice its presence. so outside right now we have rain in marin county and san rafael. so the commute an extra challenge with the rainfall. this is where we are heading. we are in the middle of the storm right now as you can see right now, we could pick up amounts of rain from an inch in fact south bay. we could

orinda you're seeing yellow. that represents a moderate rainfall. but who cares about the radar?point we saw up to a half inch. that's significant. we are seeing flooding on the roads. you have gotten one to two inches of rain in san francisco and oakland. it doesn't matter what's going on, you will have problems handling that much water in the city. tomorrow morning about 8 on 9 a.m., i'll sleep 8 or 9 a.m., skies will be clear. there will be a few sprinkles. we keep those in the forecast especially east and a sprinkle here and there but it's not bad tomorrow as you go through the day. so with that said, there's a live camera on the bay bridge. the other thing i noticed the flag is barely blowing. with that main system rolling through tonight, what i was talking about for the sierra, we'll get heavy rain here about 3 or 4 a.m. we showed you that in the model. you're going to see the winds kick up, as well. i think the winds will be going 25, 35. there's a front. so i think we are in good shape. but i have concerns for the snow melt areas. it's raining on five to 10 feet of snow.
