bart reported no serious injuries, but nine people were taken by ambulance with minor injuries. other trains stuck on the track were also evacuated with passengers walking over the rocky track to the orinda station, where they found themselves stuck. bart said because of the holiday, it took longer than usual to coordinate a bus bridge, angering some stranded riders. the california public utilities commission is launching an investigation into why the train derailed up is getting the derailed cars rerailed and then crews are standing by to do extensive track repairs overnight. the goal, of course, is for bart to be operating normally by tomorrow morning. but at uh- again, the word of caution it might not be a bad idea to develop a plan b, a backup plan, just in case it could be they can't get these cars rerailed and they'd have to be moved on to a truck, which would require more extensive work to be done, and the repairs could take longer than expected. again, it's going to be a busy overnight here at the orinda bart station reporting live. i'm leslie brinkley, abc seven news for sure. >> leslie, thank you so much. ac transit is providing a free bus bridge between the affected stations,

reporter: it is the start of the work week for many people and things are looking normal here at the orinda bart station with a full parking lot just a day after that derailment. we are only a half-mile away from where that happened. crews had to work overnight to make sure they could offer normal service on the yellow line. having those trains running just before 5:00 a.m. but the investigation continues into what exactly happened. we did get a new update from b.a.r.t. this morning and have a better understanding of what they were dealing with yesterday. they tell us that the second car in an eight car train came off the track at a section of rails where trains can move from one track to another. usually, the operations control center can move those tracks remotely but was not able to do that yesterday. while that can happen, it is one of the investigation . the focus will be on the derailment itself. passengers yesterday said that the train came to an abrupt stop, they heard pops and then saw smoke and flames shooting up from the train. today, we checked in with riders to see how they were fee
