orlando, you've had a very rough night. if we continue to show you the live shots out of orlando. it's just awful. the winds with howling. i know people in the orlando area that are sleeping in their closets tonight. it's a very scary night as the northern eye wall is starting to come over you. you have an hour to two more hours of very strong wind. and then it's going to relent a little bit and then comes backing out of the south and west. you have a couple more hours in orlando. out of the south, this is where the wind is coming off the water. again, the water could still be piling up here on the northern part of the east coast of florida. we have to break florida down into sectors of where this coastal flooding is occurring. 51-mile-per-hour wind gusts at tampa. 59 where thomas is out there at clearwater. 64 in st. petersburg. look, the wind is coming in out of the north now. soon enough, it will be coming in out of the west, which means that gulf water will be coming onshore with about a 2 to 4 foot storm surge. latest stats from hurricane center have winds at 100 miles an hou

tonight we are live in orlando. we're about 50 miles up the road due west from mike's location right there. he's feeling it right now. we are feeling it as well in orlando. no two hurricanes are ever the same. they all have their own personality and character that is uniquely suitable to them. and you never truly know what these monster storms do once they start to interact with land. we woke up at day break and just think about the day that we've had so far today. you had adam housely in key largo getting pounded for 12, 14, 16 hours in that category 5 graded hotel, and then you had griff jenkin and steve herrigan near naples. this hurricane made a second landfall. a cat 4 in keys. a cat 3 in naples. and now it's been downgraded to a cat 2 and losing a little bit of strength throughout the evening. but still a massive storm. at day break today, counties were under -- [no audio] >> we are having some problems with bill's signal there. i don't know if we can get him back. i guess that would be understandable in a sto

fox 29's chris o'connell live in orlando.e begin though with fox's joel waldman life in miami beach. joel? >> reporter: lucy and iain, good evening to you. getting sad news there's report out in the orlando area that at least three people have died and four others hospitalized from carbon monoxide poisoning from a generator, of course, during and after hurricane irma that was not vented properly. meanwhile as you mentioned we are here in miami's international airport. we'll pan over. i was actually just talking to group of people and we've heard this story more than once today on a cruise, four-day cruise and got stuck out at sea. so they've been gone for about nine or ten days. and they are pretty loopy after all of that. you do not see american airlines counters empty like this at miami's international airport at this hour. you never see that and that's because the airport right now is operating at only 30% typically it has a thousand flights. today only 300. >> i'm still trying to get to my flight from here to cuba but can

those are sustained winds here in orlando. we are really getting the brunt of this storm here in central florida. i think the big concern now is about tornadoes because of the winds being so strong there is a huge threat. there has been throughout the day. and most of central florida is under a tornado warning if not a serious threat at this point. >> we are going to stay close to you in orlando. in the middle of the state where people have been trying to figure out where in florida to go because when we thought this storm was hitting the east coast a lot of people from the atlantic coast went to the gulf coast and then people in the gulf coast realized it was hitting them and orlando is right in the middle of this thing. this is an interesting place for things to happen. of course, the attention remains on tampa. as much as those storm squalls, those storm urge surges are not as serious as we thought, tampa has a lot of low lying area around it. i want to go to thomas roberts in tampa. he has been there since it first started

right now in the vicinity of orlando towards spring hill.pa, the reason michael has seen that water rise is now we're on the back side and now the wind is coming in from a northwesterly direction. and it will shift even more as the center of circulation of irma moves more towards the north and moving fairly rapidly. we will see that even more so move in from the west. maybe the storm surge on the order of three feet, i see some reports if they are estimating as much as five feet but a high tide. that high tide brings in about an additional two to three feet across that area as well. we have a lot to tell but because it isn't just right around where the eye of irma is located. but also over here on this northeastern coast of florida. it has been very dramatic. look at this. this long feeder band with this enhanced precipitation right around daytona beach. you see sara sidner, she was holding on for dear life. producer told me she is safe. she is fine. but nonetheless stunning to see someone holding on like that in the band of intense rain and

pierce, orlando and daytona beach.his is what we call the outer band, and this is why we're seeing several tornado watches and warnings, and several funnel clouds that have touched down, officially tornadoes throughout the evening hours. now, tracking irma as it continues to work its way from south to north towards georgia, we can see by monday morning at 8:00 a.m., expected wind speeds 75 miles per hour. so at that point, it would have become or will become a category 1 hurricane for irma but it will continue to work its way northward through georgia, touching atlanta, going to the west of it as a tropical storm and eventually becoming a tropical depression as it continues to work its way north, westward, through the tennessee valley. so there's a lot more to come with hurricane irma. and we'll be tracking that for you. so follow us on social media @ nbcphiladelphia. coming up in just a bit, we'll talk about what to expect for your monday morning. the week does not start off that bad. >>> nbc 10 has been bringing you
