(jrs)(j.r.)it's very likely they did. in the three cases where the women went to the hospital, a rape kit was used in at least one and likely all three cases. today's report given by the san francisco police department is now required because of the large backlog of rape cases across the state and here in the area. starting this year rape kits are required to be tracked and required to be submitted to the crime lab within 5 days. the good news is that san francisco is getting better when it comes to doing that. in the last six months of last year 15 kits did not make it in within five days. this year 6 kits did not make it to the crime lab within five days. all of the newer kits were processed though so that is good news as well. also the number of dna matches made in these cases rose by 8 percent from 14 to 22 perecent. as to the number of untested rape kits here in san francisco it is still unclear. it's likely in the hundreds or possibly thousands. because of the new restrictions t
