what happened was, federal authorities were brought in to investigate this here is how the orlando sentinel wrote it up. according to the june 17 indictment of greenberg, school officials first turned over to the sheriff's office but investigators termed the letters weren't written by students. they were written by adults. the letters were then turned over to the district attorney. joel greenberg's dna and finger prints were ultimately found on the nine letters sent to the school where his opponent works. so nine different letters all proporting to be from students about horrible behavior. he leaves his dna and fingerprints a criminal genius at work here, obviously. he also, according to prosecutors, set up fake twitter and facebook accounts in the name of the same guy and other people working at that school. those fake accounts had their own fingerprints ultimately traced back to an ip address at his own computer at greenberg's house. in which he said his opponent was a segregationist and white supremacist and a terrible person not difficult to trace those back to greenberg's house. the pr

let's get insight on the ground with jeff weiner, a reporter with the orlando sentinel. jeff, thanks for doing this. >> thanks for having me. >> let's begin at the beginning. joel greenberg, why should the audience care? >> joel greenberg, there's many answers to that question. our local audience started caring about him in 2016, when he became tax collector in seminole county. with him in the office, it was one that was constantly swirling with controversy from the time that he announced his staff would begin to openly carry firearms, to his carrying of a tax collector badge, which he used to pull over a driver. all kinds of controversies, and a lot of which that we reported on over the years. contracts handed over to friends and family members. this was always a controversy in central florida, and really only here. he was not a national figure. that began to change last year, however, when he was indicted by federal prosecutors, an indictment that has since been p replicated three more times. allegations of stalking, sex trafficking, embezzlement, wire fraud, pretty mu
