pamela osborne joins us live after talking to the people that knew him. what did they tell you? >> his name was benjamin boone, but his neighbors knew him as bb. he fought in world war ii, came home and settled in on this block where he will be greatly missed. in the dark of night, there were only sounds. >> i heard someone hollering and screaming. >> ruth rushed to her window to see her 92-year-old neighbor's row home glowing from fire. >> i saw the flames. i said, oh, my gosh. the screaming and hollering. that's when i got the phone and dialed 911. good firefighters were on the scene three minutes later. 11 fire companies and 40 firefighters and medics rushed to his aid. despite their best efforts, they weren't able to save the veteran. he was not able to make it out on his own. >> he had one leg, but he used a wheelchair and a walker. >> when resuwas no longer an option, firefighters went in to recover benjamin boone's body. his burned out wheelchair and other personal belongings a reminder to everyone here of exactly what was lost. >> he was a very ni

pamela osborne has just arrived on the scene. tell us what's happening. >> reporter: vai, you can see the police cruiser involved in that accident is still here on the scene. just within the past minute or so, they opened up this intersection. traffic again is moving at 63rd street. you do want to keep your eye out. there is still quite a bit of police activity here. now, the injured officer was a passenger in that cruiser. police tell us that sergeant and an officer were heading to assist with a burglary in progress. the cruiser was heading east on haverford with lights and sirens on when they were clipped by a septa bu septa bus. the impact caused the cruiser to spin and wreck into a pole. there were no passengers on the bus. the sergeant who was driving the cruiser was not injured, but he was taken to the hospital to be checked out. the officer that was hurt was walking and talking before he was taken by ambulance to penn presbyterian hospital. he was complaining of pain to his neck and side. as you can see, police are still h

nbc10's pamela osborne has an update live from southwest philadelphia. what's the latest?> vai, certainly a scary situation for that driver. he went to the hospital in critical condition this morning. we checked in, he's now in stable condition. so he is improving, while police are searching for the two suspects who they say shot him execution style for $60 and a cell phone. it was just before 11:00 monday night when a 35-year-old pizza delivery driver from chillin pizza left to make a delivery. >> it's not right. it's not right. >> what happened next had neighborhood john shaking his head. once he got to beaumont street, the driver got a call from one of the men who placed the order. he said he'd be right down. so the driver was getting the food together when all of a sudden two men came up, forcing him inside of his own car. they drove him away from this location. the two suspects drove the delivery driver to the area of warrington and cobb's creek. once there, they forced him out of his car and onto his knees. they went through his pockets and stole $60, but they wanted

nbc 10's pamela osborne is live at southwest detectives in west philadelphia.do police think they lured the driver with a fake delivery order? >> that's exactly what police happened last night. they think it could be teens responsible for this brutal attack. they need your help tracking those suspects down. detectives say the victim, a 35-year-old delivery driver froo chillen pizza was making a delivery to the 5700 block of beaumont avenue just before 11:00 last night when he was kidnapped. the person that called to place the order called the delivery driver and said he'd be right out. the victim had his back turned and was getting food out of the passenger's side of the car. the two suspects drove him to the victim of cobbs creek and warrenton. they forced him out of the car and on to his knees. they went through his pockets and took about $60. the suspects asked for more money and the victim didn't have it. one of the suspects acted as though he was going to run that delivery driver over. the driver tried to run away. the suspects forced him back on his knees

pamela osborne spoke exclusively with a witness.live from temple university hospital in north philadelphia with the latest. >> we actually had a crew in the area at the time those shouts were fired. we were able to get here very quickly, as soon as that happened. we spoke with a man who was caught up in the whole thing. >> i almost ran into it, so i ran backwards. get away from the shooting. >> what this witness didn't realize at the time was that the bullets he ran from were fired from off off-duty philadelphia police officer. >> i was standing right there. >> he tells us it started with a man on a motorcycle and two women in a green monte carlo. the car had been traveling south on broad. the trouble started when they tried to go left on tioga. >> the girls came down here and turned off in front of the motorcycle. the motorcycle hit the car and flipped over and the girls kept going. >> it happened just after 11:00 tuesday night. the witness says he watched as the off-duty officer first tried to chase the car down. >> he grabbed the

pamela osborne is on the scene. >> reporter: they took the driver away to get a blood alcohol test this morning. i want to let you know, i just got off the phone with police a couple of minutes ago. one teen is still in very bad shape. now here's what we know. this all happen around 2:00 this morning. two teens were riding on one bicycle with a group of their friends when they were hit. police say there were a total of five teens on four bikes. they were riding south in the northbound lanes of broad when a red lexus came speeding down the street. the force of the impact was so severe that the front wheel of the bike was knocked off, went airborne and landed half a block away. the teens were also thrown if from the bike. one suffered a broken leg with, the second in very critical condition still at the time after suffering severe trauma. witnesses were able to give police a zrings of the vehicle, a red lexus with the black rims. they were able to see a man driving and a woman was also in the car. officers caught up with them a short time later. police tell us witnesses the car, a red lex

reporting live in south philadelphia, i'm pamela osborne, nbc10 news. >> pamela, thank you. sky force 10 got new video of a forest fire in the new jersey pine barrens. that's smoke from the fire in the browns mills area on the grounds of joint base mcguire. we got an update from officials there who say the fire is now about 80% contained. they say rain will help with their operation. some homes were evacuated last night, but those people have been able to return. >>> and police are trying to track down two men who attacked a homeless man in south philadelphia. a warning, this video might be disturbing to some of our viewers. authority tell us the homeless man took shelter from a rain storm inside a td bank vestibule on south fifth street. this was last month. you can see the attackers open the door and pelt the man with rocks. they even shove a shopping cart at him. at one point, the victim was curled up in a ball in the corner and the attackers kept throwing rocks at him. the victim was treated for cuts on his head and neck pain. if you happen to know any information about
