chief hayes white has laid out a strong case for how our city can invest in our emergency medical services to ensure that the fire department complies with the agreement which i am currently reviewing. however, as the city looks forward -- look towards our 2014-15 city budget, we are all faced with the reality that the city is still operating in a deficit. even as the city's economy has rebounded after the recession, there is still not enough funds to cover all of our expenditures, resulting in a 66.7 million dollar deficit. as we embark together in crafting this year's budget, supervisors, i ask that you all remember that there are hard choices and trade-offs that will be necessary. whether it's investing in housing, in transportation, infrastructure or public safety, i know that san francisco will come together to find the right approach. supervisor, thank you for your question. i look forward to evaluating the chief's recommendations and working with you and the rest of the board to come up with a solution on this very important issue. >> thank you, supervisor breed. our next question w

that's not all we did we want to make sure our city is safer and in addition, we started a lifelines council one of the first in the country we'll dial and have meetings with our utility providers that lifeline has been critical because of their silos they have their approach to disaster that was never contemplated with our fire and police and public utilities commission by creating that lifeline council and having a dialog on each party to match how do you get the workforce back into the city to recovery kwiblg what were the proprietors to match up and we didn't have that ability until we created the lifeline council meeting. it's working well, it's just the beginning we have adapt sf another program that mayor bates has signaled the sea levels of are rising as we see it hit ocean beach we have a moofrt plan to respond rather than fight nature we have to understand it. adapt sf is getting all our departments whether the port or public works or all the other entities working together to we can look at the enter dependent agencies can understand their roles and therefore create project

currently doing as well as our users in the city itself. our recent water system improvements to get to that reliability system that you talked about and state and federal legislation that are in the works that hopefully can provide funding for some of the activities that we need to engage in to really save more water here. first, on the water supply conditions, the current water supply in our reservoir is 98 billion gallons which sounds like a lot of water but when you need about 32 million gallons per day, it's not a lot of water. we have 12,000 acre feet in our system which is a back up water supply. i will talk about how we plan to access that if we need it. and we have water basically is what we used to supply the irrigation districts with water to maintain water in hetch hetchy reservoir. that water depends on the reservoir. it didn't look like much in flow and that water wasn't worth much. precipitation has been normal for february. more is needed. we basically need this weekend storm to be strong and one or two more series of storms

this is what makes our city special. you look at all the city's and great cities it depend upon their citizenry to bring out the best of our resident to hear and be those effective conduits. i'm going to ask you to pay attention to the responsibility you occur in our bodies of work but pay attention to issues looish like affordability and housing and people being hurt or the folks on the streets or the need to produce a better health plan and health care. all the things that make our city great no matter if you sit on entertainment or arts paying attention to the quality of life for everyone is important. for me it's about collaborating and you be thinking freely. this need not be your issue but if you pay attention you'll find of the conduits whether you're fire or local business you'll find the conduits that make the collaboration better. thank you for thinking outside the box and thank you for being responsible citizens that take up the cause for all of us. let's go and precede and if i can i would like you all to stan

christie, among other things, has served on the implementing council for our city after being invited into that council by angela alioto, she has served in kas pa its to do what is in the very best of the spirit of the city of st. francis. i want to give one example of something she worked with my office to do ~. she had a 31 year old woman who had struggled for years with mental health issues who had been arrested, who came in through her doors and christie and her staff found that she had been a musician in a prior life and worked with some of my constituents and my office and the san francisco symphony in obtaining a violin to kim noble who was recently profiled by the l.a. times as a woman whose life was completely turned around because of the intervention of north beach citizen. and so, christie, i want to say on behalf of my district, on behalf of our neighborhoods, on behalf of our city, thank you for being one of our treasures, thank you for your leadership. thank you for all that you've done and on behalf of women's history month, congratulations.
