i recognize that the city is working furiously to strengthen our citywide preparedness via the city operation center as much as possible and to mitigate the impacts to our most vulnerable populations, our seniors and people with underlying medical conditions. however, while departments like d.p.h. and d.e.m. are thinking of preparing us on a macrolevel, we as supervisors need to think on a microlevel. this is the time where we need to step up our leadership to bring people together while adhering to the health recommendations for social distancing. it is time for every supervisor to do a deep dive into the infrastructure of our districts, to assess where there might be gaps in the safety net serving our most vulnerable communities and to think critically and creatively about how we can meet those needs, we need to be in communications with our senior service providers who best know the needs of their clients. we need to push the private sector as well, but it is also our responsibility to be a model employer, and i hope that for our public facing employees, our bus drivers, deputy sheriffs, a

we not only extended sick leave to our city employees, but we put out $10 million of our city money to pay for private businesses to extend sick leave for their employees. we worked with the state to embassy te extend the requirements for those getting laid off and coordinated with the private sector to invest and contribute to a fund where people who are struggling and they meet certain criteria, they can get money right away. we have to act sooner rather than later. we talk about a shelter in place, we want people to stay home. what happens if you have no income coming in and you can't go out and buy even some of the simple groceries that you need? we have to act sooner rather than later for artists, for musicians who are no longer playing at venues. they need relief. we have to be a lot more considerate towards the population we know will be most impacted. we already in california are in the midst of a homeless crisis and it's only going to get worse if we don't get support from our federal government. there's only so much we can do loc locally but we're doing everything we can. >>
