our city has talked about our front-line workforce. at this point the conversation has shifted into those that are vaccinated and those that are unvaccinated and how the unvaccinated are beginning to put in jeopardy so much of the great effort we've made here in san francisco. and when i think of children that don't have the choice under the age of 12 to be vaccinated, how that could possibly impact schools. how it could possibly impact our seniors and our most vulnerable, just wanted to highlight for us that i think we're going to have really seriously take up that conversation. i want to recognize the san francisco bar owners alliance. we're seeing that expanding into the private sector. businesses are taking it upon themselves to begin to expand the conversation about mandate and how that will impact san francisco. we have 76% of our population with at least one dose and almost 70% that are fully vaccinated. that still has not fully protected us in this environment. so i know we're going to be on break. i know this delta variant is

and then when i look at the diagram, i feel like our city, our home should be much bigger. it is because we have the largest source of funds. we are the centrifigal force. that is an important amount of money, and our responsibility as an oversight committee, to make sure we're sort of taking that very seriously and using it as strategically as possible. i'm not sure if we just have a chance to keep talking about it, but i would definitely like to pull back that liaison structure and see where that falls in line with the work plan. and i would like to say, also, despite my reaction as of this moment, there is a lot in there that is about what we have said over and over, with this collective impact. we need to be engaging with mental health s.f., and their committees and with the mayor's office. all of the stakeholders are incredibly important to this work. i don't want to make it seem that that is not at the center of this, and reasserting the values of people with lived experience. and taking seriously that that is what is at stake. it is a shift of language. like, we came

and hetchy power in our city we provide 70% of the power to places like general, city hall, to our schools and treasure island and other locations throughout san francisco and i remember in 2012 or 2013 and senator wiener would remember how important clean power was to the people of the district i represented and so he and i worked very closely to fight to push san francisco in a direction where we finally rolled out a clean power program and in fact we worked to make sure that clean power program was provided to the residents of the bayview hunters community community first. the district that supervisor maxwell used to representative, because of many of the environmental injustice that's had occurred but more importantly, because we know it's possible. why do we need to continue to wait? why do we need to continue to be subjected to fossil fuel? is that are destroying san francisco and destroying our planet. we can't just be about instant gratification and what we see before us, we have this by will the future and what's being proposed in this world through the paris climate accord and i

at some point, we're still waiting to hear from the city attorney in terms of all of our members needing to be vaccinated. now or once the fda a proves the vaccine. so, the city is mandating it for certain positions and we're trying get clarity on that from d.h.r. more to follow on that. we're also recommending that people wear their masks again indoors as this is just really infectious, the delta variant is and we have had some folks ex down with covid in the last couple of weeks and only one of them was not vaccinated and that person ended up in the hospital. several of them were vaccinated and several others were not. the ones that were vaccinated, are not having major problems. there are the break-through cases of the delta variant. on monday, august 2nd, the 128th firefighting academy begins and i look forward to going over the t.i. and greeting all of them and it will be 42 new recruits and the chief is going to be excused in a moment becauser holding a session for the recruits and their families this evening and he and people are there to speak with all of them and their families.

it's really good to be here and prioritize where we are with regard to covid-19 in our city. thank you, everybody, for joining. looking forward to questions and some discussion. we have some slides that i'll be presenting to let you know where things stand, and i know that this pandemic is creating greater challenges within our community. next slide, please. so as of today, we have over 41,000 cases of covid-19 diagnosed in our city, and we have 565 deaths. we are now in a fourth surge, and you can see that we now have an average of about 235 cases a day, and unfortunately, we are seeing another surge in hospitalizations as of august 1 with 97 people in the hospital. san francisco has done a great job of vaccinating people, and again, thank you for your collective efforts in supporting vaccination. it is our ticket out of the pandemic. 70% of everyone in san francisco has been vaccinated, and that includes, in that calculation, people who are under 12 who, as you know, are not eligible for vaccine yet. total number of vaccines yet, you can see 667,000. 84% of people 12 and ol

city build, of course, administers our workforce program under an m.o.u. city build is the construction workforce development arm under the office of economic and workforce development and prior to the start of any construction by the subcontractor, they're required to attend a preconstruction meeting where we go overall practices and the expectations that's required of the subcontractors. weekly certified pay is required so that we can monitor not only the hours that's been worked but also what's been paid, as well. next slide, please. so in terms of the past 12 months, we have shown a slightly improvement over the prior year. we're overall participation is 61.5%, and again, the level of participation or the number of hours that's been worked has been impacted by covid-19 or the pandemic. last fiscal period, we reported nearly 2.2 million hours. currently, there's about 900 -- well, for this past year, it's 920,000 hours. next slide, please. this chart is a representation of what's been captured and shown in prior periods. i thought it was important to ext
