to helping make sure these venues are around, to continue to be part of the economic recovery for our cityu think about the venues for events in the city, we're talking about all of them. some have been able to come back adaptively over the last year and have been able to be shape shifters in this pandemic, and that's exciting to see, but i'm really looking forward to the day when events and venues can reopen and help drive the recovery here in san francisco. >> they have done a study that says for every dollar of ticket sales done in this city, $12 goes to neighboring businesses. from all of our vendors to the restaurants that are next to our ven sues and just so many other things that you can think of, all of which have been so negatively affected by covid. for this industry to fail is unthinkable on so many levels. it's unheard of, like, san francisco without its music scene would be a terribly dismal place. >> i don't know that this needs to be arrest -- that there needs to be art welfare for artists. we just need to live and pay for our food, and things will take care of themselves. i

city college. other initiatives. we've announced partnership through our office as techsf is highlighted with our city college. through the college's computer networking and information tech nothing as well as cyber security and we're even just excited about a new grant from our office and partnership with the port to invest in the construction administration certificate that city college has developed which is a new grant to our office. so so many things to be excited about and with respect to recommendations, i want to make sure we're available throughout the hearing. i just wanted to maybe summarize some of the swonss that you see here with respect to a couple things. as city departments convened by our office in partnership with the human rights commission to really do as best we can to coordinate all the city's investments in workforce development. our most recent reports for fiscal year 2019-2020 found it often happens when policy makers, the public will see our office as workforce development in the name of our office, but in '19 and '20 fiscal year, it totalled $170 million. so we're always coordinated

our neighbors. that's what this city is about. the same thing happened when the pandemic first hit our city. we all came together like never before and yes, we are one of the densest cities in the country, which is why creating spaces like this are so important, but we also saw despite a global pandemic, we saw one of the lowest death rates anywhere in the country and seeing the highest vaccination rates anywhere in the country. so -- (applause) we should be proud. but i'm not surprised. it's what we do best. when an opportunity presents itself, we don't see just a problem. we see a solution. jury commons is a solution for the community. it created an old rail yard, a place that this community knew about for many, many years and used for many, many years but had a vision to make it into something that can be extraordinary and that's what you created. all the greenery, all the plants, all the play structures and yes, the advocacy it took to get it done. reaching out to apply for fund ing with the city. you know how difficult the city can be and how difficult it can be to get funding from the c

neighborhoods, we help city staff to collect where our responses are falling short of community needs. we also did interviews for city staff together to gather the individual perspectives on when the gaps may be in our services and processes. in addition to the information that the city provide, we conducted interviews and panel discussions with community organizations and residents, just around their experiences accessing city-funded violence prevention and services. and last month we followed up on this to discuss what potential elements will be for broader citywide violence prevention work. in our findings, hundreds of programs, as i'm sure you know, are funded and delivered across the city. but they have very different frameworks for understanding and addressing hate violence. the departments gave us these lists of several hundred programs that they deliver either directly or through funds from community organizations. but across, and sometimes even within departments, many programs had overlapping or intersecting purposes, and there weren't any established venues for depart
