important work of making sure our students are safe in our communities. my son just started high school on wednesday and my daughter is starting fifth-grade next week and i dropped dominic off at high school on his first day. i insisted i did it. and besides saying to me, mom, don't say anything weird when you dropped me off, this people around, i said to him, look both ways. it is on a busy street. he is still 14 years old and still telling my child, be careful when his crossing the street considering how dangerous our streets can be. as we kick off the new school year, as we all know, hit and runs and collisions between pedestrians and bicyclists and be at -- vehicles are way too common in san francisco. nearly every community meeting i have been to recently, neighbors have voiced support force crating safer streets and sidewalks and i definitely share this goal. it is our collective responsibility to make sure our streets and sidewalks are safe and secure for families who are walking, for those who are driving, and for those who are riding their bikes

yesterday in our caucus, that was the presentation of our working group to our caucus to hear what some of their observations were. and we talked about h.r. , which is our lower prescription drug costs now legislation, which is receiving rave receive views except the farm suital industry which is misrepresenting what is it is. it will lower costs not only for our seniors but guy negotiating power and negotiating lower prices for medicare but the prices would apply in the private sector as well and it has provisions that would stop the abuse of our paying four, five, six times for the prescription drug that is sold in other countries and puts a cap on what seniors will be required to pay for prescription drugs and less than what the senate is proposing. and it will be acted upon by the committees of jurisdiction. and chairman neal and frank pallone and bobby scott in the education and labor committee. this is very, very important. and some of you heard me say on the campaign trial, i have seen and see how an cry debilitating it is. so we continue to move forward on meeting the needs of t

regulations our trade, and our defense policies. this clarity has brought benefits far from jeopardizing negotiations. it is making them more straightforward. in the last few weeks, i believe the chances of a deal have risen. this week, we are intensifying the pace of meetings in france. -- in brussels. our european friends can see that we want an agreement, and they are beginning to reflect that reality in their response. president macron said, i quote, i quote, if -- mr. speaker, they don't want to hear the words. they don't want to hear about any progress we might be making. mr. speaker -- >> order, order. i want to hear everything. well, i have never had any difficulty in hearing the prime minister. if it is necessary for him to speak up, i am certain -- order. i am sure he will overcome his natural shyness in order to do so. prime minister? mr. johnson: mr. speaker, i think they are willfully closing their ears to the reality that our friends and partners are increasingly seeing the possibilities of an agreement. again, i quote

unify our country around our common values, our common goals, our common aspirations and experiences.ause the vast majority of us have so much more in common than what separates us. in this election, we cannot campaign and aa strategy that is about dividing people around ideology because i'm going to tell you, i have not attended one town hall or rally where anyone has raised their hand and said, you know the thing that keeps me up at night is this debate between socialism and capitalism. we need to have strategy that is a winning strategy about saying that we have got to recognize the challenges before us as a nation and a world. our big challenges about who we are, our definition, standing, and strength as a nation, and to meet those challenges, it will not be about going back to the good old days. it will be about looking forward and taking on the challenges that meet us today and in the future.
