books such as the film, the towering inferno, the books the catcher in the rye and the tv programs ozzie and harriet, the simpsons, and yes, of course, saturday night life. so how did the book come about? around 2011, i was asked by the publisher, wiley blackwell, two write a series of essays on jimmy carter. i knew far less about gerald ford. so i began doing a lot of reading about him. i realized, there was room for a biography of him. another one. there had only been two biographies written of him since his passing in 2006. one came out in 2007 and another in 2014 by james cannon who worked with gerald ford. i felt both left stones unturned. i contacted woodward who worked at the university press of kansas. he said it was a great idea. the rest is history. the book came out laced -- late last year. the book itself, the title reflects what i see as three themes. in my view, it addresses ford's political life. number one, ambition. ford was an ambitious individual . in boy scouts, he worked to become an eagle scout. he played football in high school and college. he sought to become the
