and looking at the next chart of the s & p, the s & p might go as high as 1555. wow. or even 1607. again, using her fibonacci work to get there. that would be the kind of market if we get to 1607. and the trouble comes back to the s & p, to 1336 to 1446. and brodin's going higher, and we could see terrific rallies in the dow industrials and nasdaq. her upside for the dow is approaching 13985. caught your attention and she sees the ndx running up to 2982, a 12.7% increase where it is right now. could that be apple getting back to where it was? the bottom line, charts aren't more powerful than the fiscal cliff, but while we wait for washington to finish its game of deal or no deal, this market has some hurdle jumping to do. if the s & p can break out above 1446, today's pullback can be overcome and the entire market could levitate. that's what we need to see to get the charts on our side, or brodin's version of them. i'm with her. cautious, wary, but opportunistic, all the same. after the break, i'll try to make you more money. >> coming up, last minute shopping? after almost doublin

i think you are going to continue to see vol buyers into january, because the expectations are the s&pcould slip significantly if nothing gets done. we are trending right now back down toward that 50-day moving average, chuck, which is around 1413, with the s&p right now about 1419. so, not too far away from there. so that is something we are keeping a close eye on. i think if we break through there, you would see a lower high in this pattern, and that potentially could lead to higher volatility expectations. > dan, what about the s&p 500? eight out of 10 groups in the s&p fell, including apple. > > exactly. you are seeing apple push back down now toward those lows that it saw just a couple weeks ago, like $501 i think was the intra-day low. so you are seeing apple under pressure as we roll into the end of the year. really kind of an unusual end of the year with this fiscal cliff situation hanging over the marketplace. you are seen vol expectations increasing as we go to the end of the year. that is atypical. and you are seeing the market, like i said, kind of under a little bit of pre

>> the special dividend theme has become very popular in the past weeks as about a couple of dozen s&p companies have announced a special dividend before year end to take advantage of the 15% tax rate. it tabulates to about $13 billion worth of dividends. about $1.25 per s&p share. not a huge deal. it matters for the companies that have announced it. a little bit of a pop. i think this is more of an option valuation issue than stock valuation issue. but we do think there'll be more announcements over the rest of this week and next week probably taking the total to about $2 per s&p share. a few companies we've screened, we've looked at companies with high cash balances, strong balance sheets, high inside ownership is an important factor. also making sure cash is largely onshore. a few names we think are likely to do it would be norm stroms, stryker and robert half. all buy rated stocks that i'm comfortable suggesting that there could be the additional catalyst there. i don't think this is the only factor you should be considering when picking stocks. >> good to have you on the show. tha
