p.m. eastern time on american history tv, on c-span3. ♪ [singing] tonight on "lectures on history," we visit guilt for technical college to watch the professor teach a class on civil war weaponry and share artifacts such as muskets and revolvers, that allow soldiers to fire faster and with greater accuracy. revolutionary carbine was this carbine. this was invented by a man named christopher spencer and spencer came up with several brilliant ideas. one of which was a new cartridge. was totallye self-contained. it looked pretty much like a modern cartridge, doesn't it -- like a giant .22. his cartridge was the standard lead miniball, but the cartridge is self-contained. and has the parter in this copper case. instead of having a cap for priming, the primaries in the rim around the base, so it has the rim going around the base of the cartridge. so you don't need a percussion cap. it is a huge jump. if that wasn't a jump enough, to load it, he invents a magazine that goes in the back of the carbine. so this magazine holds seven cartridges. carbineu have a spencer and you are in a battle or a fig
