visitation valley the primary home to our pacific islander communities. visitation valley and sunnydale hold legacy cites that are vital to the fabric of the community. many pacific islander residentses from sunnydale started community churches, restaurants from their kitchens, created space for meeting of high chiefs and funds raising in the neighborhood. importantly, the visitation valley and sunnydale nishgds are where the pi community lost many loved once. this is a special memorial to honor all the pi community kids, youth and adults victims of gun violence, hate crimes and other domestic vinyls. first pi accidents and restaurant in san francisco started in visitation valley. including south pacific restaurant and a shop on geneva avenue. these stores were forced to close or locate somewhere else due to high rents and the luau is a dining hub for the pacific islander community. in 1975, the lee land avenue commercial corridor home to the first pi community owned businesses including t shirt shop, video shop, hugo store, furniture store and other paci

and historic week for those and in the house it was my honor to welcome 16 heads of state of pacific island nations to the united states capital. we had bipartisan like chemical welcome for them and we listened on how we can work together as part of the presidents pacific partnership strategy. the president and administration has had today at least today a summit meeting with the heads of the pacific island countries and part of it was our role at the capital. and it's this initiative for the pacific is one of the reasons why i took my congressional delegation when we went to singapore and malaysia, japan, taiwan, korea to beat part of the indo pacific economic framework is one part of it and now with the pacific islands. it was pretty exciting. because we talk about security, economy and governance and how we can work together to have free, open and safe countries in the region in partnership with them. also yesterday it's exciting because it's personally exciting to me to celebrate the legacy of our 33rd president harry truman. we had the unveiling of the statue with his family there. it
