to better support asian americans, pacific islanders? >> historically, we thought that what we want for the u.s. china relationship is the best and brightest. when in fact what i think we realize recently is if you are getting what you consider to be the best and brightest, you are likely not actually getting what you really truly need. there probably that you are probably missing out on very critical voices that need to be in the room. it is proven across industries, across organizations of various sizes that diversity is what brings innovation and improves problem-solving within any organization. if anyone is taking any action that dismisses anyone based on race, language, ethnicity, whatever it may be, it's not only immoral. you are hindering our own, ourselves. you are hindering us on an international stage. what we have to do is be consistently and aggressively conscious of the fact that we need to combat any underlying discrimination that anyone might potentially have and you have to combat that directly and through policy, through

nearly half of all asian americans and pacific islanders have experienced racism.nl -- excuse me, have experienced this termination. only one in five have reported. they find the reporting process itself difficult. many don't believe that reporting would make a difference. many do not know where to go after experiencing discrimination. this signals a need for government to improve the system and do more linguist tickly and culturally appropriate outreach to our communities. kristen: just our communities or others? because i wonder if there is an aspect of people reporting it and then having others above them telling them, that's not actually discrimination or racism. >> that's true. there are several rights laws that require certain individuals, including supervisors at work, administrators and teachers at schools, they have specific requirements under the law, and they should also be trained in terms of how to respond when someone comes to you with a civil rights violation. kristen: i also think you were talking about many for new civil rights laws. another one of
