we are dealing with a unique weather pattern in the pacific northwest. what we call an upper level low. a storm system that's well above the ground and it's actually -- you can kind of pick up the spin. look at the direction the radar is kind of going. the green on the map shows you where the rain is. you notice you can see it right in here just south of olympia right now. it's actually retrograde. kind of sliding backwards. on the back front side of the storm we have enough lift here we're getting showers and thunderstorms. kind of rare to see this on storm tracker radar. this is spokane washington, interstate 90 seeing thunderstorms. these are all lightening strikes for this little batch that's headed north. if you're heading up to odessa, ritzville, it's exiting. east side of ward. you may hear a rumble of thunder. kind of rare for this time of morning. shouldn't cause too many problems. we have the tropical flow -- monsoonal flow, excuse me. numerous showers and storms in the areas of arizona. that looks like it's dried out. we're warm in many other

unseasonally strong area of low pressure is dropping into the pacific northwest. it will end up in northern california probably tomorrow or wednesday morning. that means our temperatures they are going down rapidly. this system will doesn't have a lot of moisture with it. but the mere fact it's arriving this time of year it can do two things really crank up the fog bank and send temperatures not only plunging but also the wind really picking up. 50s on the temps. low to mid. i don't think they will be going very far. low clouds have already cleared the coastal hills. you can see the low right here in seattle it's on its way to portland and eventually somewhere around eureka. so much cooler is the main message here. low clouds sunny. now the low clouds will probably get chewed up today because temperatures will be so cool. very windy at times. 50s and 60s coast and bay. and mainly 70s inland. 59 san francisco. san rafael. 56 fremont. concord 72. livermore 74. fairfield 73 and hold on to the hat and use the extra hold on the hair spray. it will be howling out there.

also potential for flooding here in the pacific northwest. ongoing rainstorms and in the east, thunderstorms the accompanied by heavy rain. the ohio valley is getting it overnight and then that rain band, the front is going to sag down further towards the south and into the southeast during the course of the day. anywhere highlighted in the red, expect severe thunderstorms through the mid-atlantic. now, this rain, although it could cause flooding problems, is going to be welcome. there's been a rough drought situation prevailing for the last several weeks. record breaking drought in fact through much of the united states, as you can see here. hasn't been helped by the very high temperatures. oklahoma cities, 41 degrees for you. after this rain moves away, temperatures start to rise in the upper midwest. chicago, 28 for you on friday. by monday, it will be 38. so be prepared for that. as we head now into europe, it's going to be one more soggy day for you in southern parts of the uk. but the good news is by saturday, it should start to improve

the map that was every where that was 90 degrees, most of the country the exception being the pacific northwestthe great lakes are dealing with thunderstorms this morning. the east coast is dry as could be and every where either warm or hot. today's forecast highs 100 once again from kansas city to st. louis, even chicago jumping up to 90. as far as the east coast goes we're looking at temperatures from new england in the 80s but from new york city southward everyone will be in the 90s. maybe a few thunderstorms late in the day in atlanta. how does the fourth of july look? the cold front and the storms that are now in the great lakes will be over the top of new england on the fourth of july. there's going to be scattered afternoon showers and storms that have the potential to give you downpours for maybe a half hour at a time that could ruin your picnic plans or possibly the fireworks too. we'll watch that. macy's fireworks display starts at 9:00 in new york city. i think hopefully the storms will be said and done by then but a close call. >> better than the macy's parades with those animals wh

a lot of that rain is going to hang out on the pacific northwest. portland, they're looking for showers today and tomorrow. the cold is basically to reinforce the wind and keep that onshore flow in place. we'll deal with fog in the morning, but by tomorrowe'll clear out nicely. 50s and 60s up the coast, 70s and 80s make their return. loss -- las gatos, 53. walnut creek, for example, and even fairfield, 83 degrees. once we get foet nins the penin onshore flows, 68 tomorrow. not bad, close to average for this time of year. one of our northernmost spots of the bay, 87. tuesday that's when we'll see our peak heat and then we cool just a bit as we head to the fourth of july as that onshore flow starts to return. there will be a system to our north. the clouds will increase and the coastal nations will start to cool just a bit, but you know, diane, i don't see a whole lot of rain. i don't think we'll see a whole lot in the next 7 days, and if you're like me and you love the outdoors, you have plenty of plans for perfect conditions. >> and we get to do tha
