think about the pacific northwest and alaska. possible, horrible things that could go wrong. what is the regional perspective toward resilience and emergency response? >> thanks for having me. great opportunity to be here. we are there to build resiliency , but also help build capacity in our state. i have 271 tribal nations. each one is different, and with that perspective and the different approaches we have to prepare and mitigate to respond to recover from disasters is not a one-size-fits-all. with the innovation, what it starts with is those relationships and collaborations not only with our travel, state, and local partners. it is also making sure we come together. >> thank you very much. josh, and is responsibility for resilience handled in emergency management? you have seen this from the diagnostic perspective and the private sector perspective? how does resilience get put together and built into emergency response? >> it is really important lesson, and the administrator talked a little bit about it. one of the things that is really important to understand is everybo

some snow hail in the higher elevations, the pacific northwest. that will continue throughout middle of the week. severe storms move into the chicago area, across the midwest by the middle of the week while we're looking at record-high temperatures down along the gulf coast. then we finish off the week with rain and wind in the east coast. obviously temperatures will drop a little bit there. but the middle of the country will dry out. we're looking at plenty of sunshine. temperatures in the 60s and 70s, so a little below average.

we're seeing a new storm system moving into the pacific northwest here across the bay area. it's been fairly quiet, but we've had numerous storms that have strengthened as they moved into the pacific northwest, are from the pacific northwest into the midwest, and we're starting out this morning all clear. and it's going to be a breezy and cool day. temperatures in the 60s near the coastline. some of those gusts may pick up to close to 40mph for today. and then that helps to cool down the valleys as well. so we're looking at 70s and 80s, not upper 80s like we had yesterday in the tri valley and north bay. and for the memorial day weekend, it will continue to come down several degrees and remain breezy. we'll talk about that in a few minutes. i know you might have to hit the road. so mike has a look at where you can find gas for less. yeah, we're looking and we're watching closely over the next couple of days. high demand weekend right. three day weekend for many driving alameda county right now has livermore with their low 424 at diamond gas and mart on south front road city

and there's the storm and the activity that continues over the pacific northwest, as i mentioned a moment ago. and here's the storm here that actually brought us the rainfall and brought more than two feet of snow to parts of the sierra over the weekend. as we move into the next few days, this ridge back in here is going to continue to strengthen over the west. and by thursday, we actually have a setup here. this system drops in on the backside of california. we have high pressure in the ridge to the west of us. we're kind of right in between. and we have that northeasterly flow. the offshore flow that not only dries things out but warms things up. so that is what is coming our way. meanwhile, the winds will be kicking in as well as we transition to this new pattern. and there's a wind advisory posted for tomorrow night that will go until thursday morning for the carquinez strait as well as areas through the delta and then farther into the sacramento valley. we could see winds reaching 45mph at times, and that's enough to kind of knock things around. if you do have outdoor furniture, thin

so as we look at this aurora viewing outlook at a level seven most likely it's the pacific northwestt gets the views of the aurora tonight up on the northern horizon. this far south you really would need to see those levels coming up. nothing like we had on friday night into saturday morning. and maybe that's good news, because if you're out there trying to spot the aurora tonight, as we go through the rest of the nighttime hours, you can really see how those low clouds fill in towards the tri valley carquinez strait for the morning and then clearing skies heading into the afternoon, which will set us up for a summer like spread of microclimates tomorrow. waking up to those low 50s around the bay area with some drizzle by lunchtime, 60s and 70s. and a look at those high temperatures tomorrow. mostly 70s inland and cool 60s bayside tuesday. the numbers start to come up tuesday, wednesday and thursday. now mid to maybe a few upper 80s well inland as high pressure strengthens for the middle part of the week, we will be staying dry and eventually slightly cooler as we approach next weeke

in terms of the rainfall right now, it's focused up to our north up in the pacific northwest. clearly a lot of green showing up on the radar for seattle and portland. for us here in the bay area, we have lots of sunshine. the low clouds and fog. they're still out there, but they are primarily south of the region. here's a closer look at the satellite. and if you look, maybe looking out toward the satellite from south of monterey, we have that fog bank out there and we will likely have some redevelopment near portland, redevelopment near portions of our coastline later on tonight into tomorrow morning. but here's some patches out toward monterey, out toward pacific grove this afternoon, as we check out the current numbers across the state, you can see a big range out there from 56 in eureka, south lake tahoe. right now, 61 looks like santa barbara 64. so with that, the fog nearby. but look at palm springs, 96 degrees. here's a closer look at our temperatures right now for the 4:00 hour. and definitely warming up. look at santa rosa. mid 80s livermore 83, oakland 72. in san fran

so then as we go through the forecast, several storm systems moving through the pacific northwest, we'll push some cooler air our way. we're not going to see much in the way of rain, with the exception of more clouds and fog near the coast and maybe even some drizzle. but we're also going to see a significant cool down here, with santa rosa going from 84 today to 78 on thursday. and then look at saturday. when do we get memorial day weekends with a high of 67 degrees and 71 degrees on sunday, and then going through next week, just a little bit warmer, but still very seasonable for this time of year. so we're going to see a big dip in temperatures after today. each day stepping down into the coolest day on saturday where san francisco will only see a high of 58 degrees. yes, cooler temperatures ahead. and mike, you're looking at a couple of major crash scenes. the first one is a new one. palo alto police tell us to avoid the intersection of oregon expressway and middlefield road. these are two major roadways through palo alto. you see the congestion already forming. there's an injury acci

there's a weak little system coming into the pacific northwest right there.e'll come in for the closer view. there's clouds tonight. we start the cooldown for friday. what you see come through about there is a very subtle weak little cold front. here's how you really see it. as that cold front leaves going into late friday heading into saturday, watch the marine layer rush right in back behind it and fill in pretty much the entire bay and get into the central valley. that is saturday morning. that's different. that's a lot more impressive in terms of the more traditional may gray kind of setup than we've had most of the week and the real close-up view shows you what it will look like saturday, not just by looking at the clouds, but it's enough marine layer that on saturday if you're along the coast or even along the east bay hills, this is light marine layer mist. this is the kind of thing that can add up to like a 0.01-inch of rain. you hate calling that rain, but it mists steadily enough through the early morning hours that it can accumulate to 0.01-inch. i
