we are this pacifica right now.ll look at live doppler hd and the winds are blowing up to ten miles per hour and blowing from east to west so the smoke is pushing down toward one and to the downtown or heart of the pacifica if you will with flames fanned that way and it is only ten miles per hour so the winds are light and you can see it that way on live doppler hd. i saw an unofficial wind public of 25 miles per hour and it was unofficial. elsewhere it was around ten miles per hour. you can see the heavier snow developing an baltimore and southern jersey at the shore headed up to philadelphia and morning and best with new york. we have increasing high clouds with mild temperatures and scattered light showers tomorrow and dry and warmer later this weekend. you miss the 70s, they are coming back. mid-to-upper 60's today and very mild and 70 around lake port last areas to get cloud cover that will dim the sunshine and drop our temperatures. upper 40's in santa rosa and napa and concord and antioch and san ramon valley

this is burning near a residential area roughly a mile east of pacifica state beach. >>> and happening today, the start of a nine-month closure at a busy san jose intersection is all because of construction on the bart extension to silicon valley. we're live at lundy avenue and sierra road. >> reporter: a will the of confusion out here at this intersection as it is closed down for the first time beginning this morning and so we're seeing a lot of drives come through here, come to a sudden stop as you're looking at the scene here right now. this is one of the most complex sections of the project, is closure will take time starting today it will be closed until october. this section of sierra road and lundy avenue will be closed off to vehicles and pedestrians. this also involved digging a tunnel. says neighbors opted for a bit more inconvenience now to save time later. >>> we did work with the community to see if they were more willing to go a longer period of time with construction and keep the roadway open, or do a full closure for nine months and we heard a resounding, let's close it

nbc bay area's michelle roberts is in pacifica there evening with the big waves. we begin in house here with chief meteorologist jeff ranieri. >> there are high wind pushing to 39. the thing that will be increasing heat again for the weekend is high pressure sitting across the west. a lot of hot air associated with it. and also some dry off-shore winds. so two main factors on why we are going to see the temperatures stay warm for saturday. here is a preview of what you can expect. south bay 73 for average. san francisco 71 and try valley 72. but there is an event that not only warms it up for the interior valleys but also at beaches. check out the forecast here. monterey 74 degrees. ocean beach 70 and bodega bay at 71. so temperatures this warm you may want to head out to the beach. if you are thinking of heading that way, here is a major warning for you. high surf advisory for the entire bay area coastline. current report has wave heights at 8 feet but again they may top 12 feet this weekend. we are tracking a full forecast and more in about 15 minutes. michelle

brian flores joins us live from pacifica with what crews are doing now. good afternoon, brian. >> reporter: hi, tori. good afternoon to you. yeah, the fires had been out for some time. the fire did sum close to homes this morning. the good news, fire crews were able to reretain it. a wakeup call for residents in an otherwise quiet pacifica neighborhood as a brush fire spread quickly this morning. >> we've been here 35 years. we don't recall this ever happening before. yeah, first time. >> reporter: fire officials still don't know what started it but say the first call came in before 4:00 this morning. somebody saw a fire in open land behind a home on fassler and estella road. with the dry conditions, the fire quickly through to five acres. >> really what pushed the fire was the 10 to 15-mile-an-hour winds pushing this fire, you know, down the hill. that's what kind of made the fire go the way it did. >> reporter: police and neighbors called 911 and knocked on doors and issued a call. some residents were only given 20 minutes to ger what they -- gather wha

this fire is burning on a hillside behind some homes in pacifica. no word if any of those homes are actually burning but people have been evacuated. one person tells us that some streets are actually closed in that area. the fire also closed tara nova high school. that could have an impact on school later this morning. and we'll bring you updates as soon as we get them. >>> time is 5:55. the san francisco medical examiner confirming a body found floating in the bay was that of software developer dan haw. he left his apartment on halloween night and never came back. his family said he suffered dizzy spells but had no history of mental illness and they don't think he cook his own life p. >>> the driver involved in a hit and run will be in court today. 30-year-old ann park was behind the wheel when she hit 84-year- old ann hong. and neighbors found hong on the street unconscious bleeding from her head. she later died at the hospital. >>> could see through the trees there seemed to be something orange really. and then it came closer and closer. i could
