but harold of note just a couple of hours ago, made a landfall there in padre island. you've been there before. it's a beautiful island, especially south padre. those winds at 50 miles an hour. in fact, there were a couple of gusts in excess of that corpus christi feeling the wind feeling and experiencing some pretty heavy rain to it's the wettest day since april 23rd. so it's been some time south texas has really needed this rain and it's not just the southern part of the state. it's throughout the hill country, west texas and wouldn't you know that it's this sort of help from the tropics that will maybe put a bit of a dent in the ongoing drought that we've had in texas ? that's worsening here? a couple of the wind gusts as we speak nearly 50 mile per hour wind gusts in corpus christi, so it feels like a tropical storm and harold doing a number there. power outages a little more sporadic at the moment, but watch it as it crosses over northern mexico right along the rio grande valley and then eventually getting into west texas, where flood watches are in effect, so that

this one came ashore right padre island in texas earlier today about 10:00am central time now to tropical depression. but it was a tropical storm herald. and you can see that is kind of heading out. but there's so much more activity going on down in the atlantic right now. you can see we've got tropical storm franklin. that one is slated to go haiti and also the dominican republic. and then. >> head towards turks and caicos and then post tropical storm gert. so there are 2 other systems as you get closer to the coast of africa that have about a 10% chance of development. and one more in the pacific as well. so it is that time of year when we keep an eye on the tropics. but meanwhile, we've had a really nice day today. you can see all that moisture have traveled away from us. and tahoe got a little bit of clearing today to now a lot of that kind of active weather with a little lightning's moved over the california line into nevada, sir, sitting about 62 degrees. a little bit cloud cover there in tahoe as we take a live look outside here from our mount tam cam. you can see those blue skies

this is tropical storm herald came through padre island. that's what made landfall. you can see it's delivering an awful lot of rain right now to parts of south texas. so still, 45 miles per hour. that one is expecting kind of track off and some of this is beneficial rain for them because they've had some drought conditions. but i want to just show you since we've kind of gotten rid of our tropical system. how busy the tropics are. we've got another tropical storm that's getting ready to head into parts of the dominican republic and then across the turks and caicos. this is tropical storm franklin. we've got post-tropical gert. and then we also have 2 other systems just coming off the coast of africa. have about a 10% chance of developing subject. got all the way over there. that's where all of those storms kind of start and start over in the off the coast of africa, kind of saharan dust is where you start to get the impetus for some of that. so take it back to the west coast now and show you that. we are relatively quiet notice. there's a little bit of lightning kin

it did make landfall south padre island around 10:00 central time, 11:00 eastern time.gusts of 65 miles per hour. moving to the west-northwest at 21. so this is a fast-moving storm. so the rain do s. going to get in and it's going to get out. this is beneficial rain for texas because we are in drought conditions for much of the state. however, we are getting a lot of rain at one time. so we do have some flash flood warnings in effect for areas around corpus christi, to the west of corpus christi as well, as we've seen several inches of rainfall already. so this rain is going to continue to push westward. it should be dying out in the next couple of hours. and then it's going to push into northern sections of mexico, west texas throughout the afternoon and the overnight hours. the forecast accumulation, we're looking at about two to three additional inches of rain. could see higher amounts across portions of mexico. but as i mentioned, this is a very dry area. 88% of the lone star state under drought conditions. unfortunately, this tropical system did not go a little bit
