also a cleanup of the existing technology, which is the gas diffusion technology still being used at paducah, but now at piten through an effort that administrations through the years have supported decontamination and decommissioning that is going on there are actually 1950 workers involved with that. and i notice in the budget and am very concerned about it that there is a 33% cut from 190 million to 127 million. will this reduction in funding allow the department to maintain the commitment the department has made to accelerated cleanup that was made i think back in 2009? >> well, we are looking very hard at this. and yes, there is a decrease in the budget. we are looking, again, at all our options, whether we can do some bartering, things of that nature. but again, we have to be very careful whether that bartering will affect the markets. and so we are trying to figure out what the tools we have how we can move that forward. >> well, in the passage, you have both barter and sold some of your own stockpile of uranium to provide the additional funding and maintain that accelerated cleanup s

and the red you see is tornado warnings just west of paducah and underneath the bug there into eastern portions of arkansas where they've had reports of tornadoes through the overnight hours. so all of this is pushing off to the east very rapidly. i want you to notice that line there of severe weather because you are going to see it here on the next satellite-radar. this is all associated with the cold front which is working east as we speak and has a history of creating tornadoes as it did during the evening hours yesterday in kansas working east. let's push o i want to he show you the satellite-radar. you can see that area of severe weather. there it is back west of the rain that is moving in to the washington area this morning. this is a warm front that is rolling through. we'll get in here if you want to time rain. i think it will be in here by 8:00, 9:00 this morning. we'll be in for widespread rain at left for the first part of the day with a warm front. maybe some thunderstorms as well will kick up. we do have some thunderstorms that are being generate out into west virginia and

he is lieutenant colonel john loftus, a 44-year-old air force officer from paducah, kentucky. loftus died at a kabul ministry saturday along with another u.s. officer who has yet to be identified. loftus, like you and me, has a family, a family, a mother who is mourning tonight. we'll hear from the mother in this broadcast in just a few minutes. colonel loftus died because of this, protests raging in afghanistan over the improper disposal of the burning of the koran at a nato base. nearly a week after the story first broke, the unrest that took colonel loftus life and that of his colleague is far from over. this was northern kunduz province today. the mob attacked a u.s. base with grenades and guns, injuring seven american troops. the tal bohn is exploiting the controversy to call for attacks on foreign soldiers. the longer this goes on, the longer our men and women in uniform are at risk. and for more on this we're joined now by paula broadwell. she spent more than 15 years in the military working in geopolitical analysis and terrorism. as an embedded author of "all in." paul

we have a company that has 1,200 jobs in paducah, kentucky, that enriches uranium. for 50 years, uranium has been accumulating and it sits on the ground as a waste product. we could recycle this, it's a green project. it costs no taxes. in fact, it will actually bring back money to the treasury. and what i would like is help from the chairman as well as the president, as well as secretary chu on this issue. i have written to secretary chu and we haven't heard back. this is very important to us. we are in the midst of a great recession, and 1,200 people are destined to lose their jobs. once again, this doesn't cause any spending, doesn't cost any taxes, and actually if you would allow us to re-enrich this uranium, it would bring money back to the treasury. that is my reason for holding this, and i would hope that we could find some reason and means to accommodate each other. until that time, i would continue to object to these nominations. the presiding officer: objection is heard. the senator from new mexico. mr. bingaman: madam president, maybe if i could just be c
