we understand he is in palm beach county in the custody of the secret service. can you shine any light at all about the demeanor of the suspect since he has been brought into custody? >> well, when he was caught in martin county which is about 45 minutes north of west palm beach. shows you he drove on i95 north. i don't know if he was trying to drive back to north carolina. he was picked up and he was apparently pretty quiet. compliant with law enforcement. it shows you he's done this before. he's had a rap sheet so he knew enough not to talk. he didn't. now whether he said something since the traffic stop i don't know. he's back in palm beach county now. but, you know fortunately we had the good samaritan, fortunately had secret service. which they did a great job after they got so much criticism in butler, pennsylvania. they did an excellent job. and we have great communication with our federal partners. >> can you tell me a little bit to two new yorkers here how it works in florida when you have a long wrap sheet but you have that kind of weapon? >> well, yeah

let's have a listen to the palm beach county sheriff whose explaining how this all unfolded. at 1:30pm, a call come out — shots fired — called in by the secret service. because we are in constant contact with them all the time, we were notified of that and we had units that immediately sealed up the area. fortunately we were able to locate a witness that came to us and said, "hey, i saw the guy running out of the bushes, hejumped into a black nissan and i took a picture of the vehicle and the tag, which was great. we had that information. our real—time crime centre put it out to the licence plate readers, and we were able to get a hit on that vehicle on i95 as it was heading into martin county. we got a hold of martin county sheriff's office, alerted them, and they spotted the vehicle and pulled it over and detained the guy. after that, we took the victim — i'm sorry, the witness that witnessed the incident — took, flew him up there, and he identified the person that he saw running out of the bushes that jumped into the car. now, in the bushes where this guy was is an ak—47 s
