elizabeth palmer has more. >> reporter: for the past three weeks lance armstrong looked like he might tour de france wins in a decisive comeback w after his battle with cancer. but as the cyclist sprinted in paris on sunday, it was armstrong's teammate, alberto contador who took first place. armstrong more than five minutes slower was third. at 37 years old he says, it's a result he's still proud of. >> i can't complain. for an old fart, not so bad. >> with the race behind him, armstrong and his teammates raised a plastic cup to one of the most demanding sporting events in the world. they loop 220 miles around france and riders average 25 miles an hour over a course that's roughly the distance from new york to salt lake city. it includes 64 uphill sections. the most grueling, 13 miles long. armstrong made cycling history when he won the tour de france every year between 1999 and 2005. 2009 was his first tour de france after a four-year break. and it appears it was just a warm-up. armstrong says he's already planning his next win in 2010. elizabeth palmer, cbs news, london. >> he's alr
