- palmer--activists in cleveland are asking for investigation into the shooting of tamir rice. rice's family said that the prosecution got it wrong. al jazeera's allen fisher explains those reports were released in the interest of transparency. >> it was a video that shocked the u.s. and the world, a 12-year-old playing in a park. cleveland, ohio, with a toy gun. it was missing the orange cap which would indicate it was a toy but it was enough to scare someone. the mancienne here sitting in the background is calling the police. he said the gun was probably fake. but that wasn't passed on to the officer who fired the fatal shots within seconds of arriving on the scene or his partner. he also had no idea that the victim was just 12 years old. >> shots fired. male down. black male, maybe 20. >> anger brought protesters out on the streets across the country. it was seen as another case of excessive police violence against the black community. >> i want to thank everybody for supporting my little brother, and i don't know why they did that. he was only 12. he wasn'ted to play basket

elizabeth palmer reports from erbil, iraq. captured by a helmet camera, prisoners are helped along by kurdish forces. in the background you can hear constant gunfire as kurds and special american forces battle isis fighters who ferocious initial resistance killed master sergeant wheeler. there is a glimpse of a huge isis flag. and jail cells built inside the house of a tribal leader. when the prisoners first came out, 69 of them in all. they were patted down by kurds, but you can hear there is american backup. >> hey, hold it right there. >> reporter: these are not the prisoners the raid was designed to rescue. the kurds had hoped to find 20 of their own fighters who were kaurped and captured and paraded by isis back in february. as soon as the raid was finished, a aircraft flew over the compound and destroyed it with a bomb. in the video posted by isis shows the wreckage and the casualties of a ferocious battle. in all say the kurds, isis lost 20 men. along with the 69 prisoners, the raid also captured six live isis fighters

our elizabeth palmer is in northern iraq tonight, and she's learned a great deal more about that raid. liz. >> reporter: scott, the secretary of defense ash carter said he authorized this raid when new information, including fresh graves indicated that the prisoners were about to be it executed. so a joint force of kurdish peshmerga fighters and u.s. special operations forces stormed this compound. they went in by helicopter, very early on thursday morning. master sergeant wheeler died when the kurds came under very heavy gunfire as they stormed the compound, and the americans joined in to help. now, this is video posted a very short time ago online by isis, which they say shows the aftermath of this raid. the mission was originally set in motion when the kurds told the americans that they thought some of their fighters who had been paraded as prisoners by isis were inside that compound. we now know they weren't there, but 70 other prisoners were, some of them believed to be it isis fighters and the secretary said that they will provide valuable information about how the group works.
