(j.r.)the home directly behind me is one of at least two that came dangerouslsy close to flames. you can see behind me the area that burned. you can also see where flame retardent was dropped in the distance. homeowners using hoses to protect their homes in san jose on wednesday as a fire tore through the hillside grass.sot just a big line of fire probably ten feet talljoe martarano said workers at his house alerted him to the flames.sot before they saw the smoke they heard bottle rockets going off and firecrackers and shortly after that they saw the smoke and that's why they came and got me.joe made it to the hillside and along with the help of the workers who alerted him and his grandson.they were all able to fight the flames with hoses. about 15 acres burned but they were able to protect their homes. san jose fire and calfire were fighting it

(pam) and i'm pam moore. multiple fires have already scorched the ground in moraga and benicia... to make matters worse...thousands of people are still without power at this hour. california is calling on people to conserve energy during the heat wave.a statewide "flex alert" has been issued.. due to high demand of electricity. a power alert asks for voluntary conservation tomorrow and wednesday between 2 p-m and 9. the state's power grid operator says you should avoid using major appliances during those hours. it's all to ease strain on the power grid. officials expect usage to exceed 47-thousand megawatts... the record is around 50- thousand back in 20--06. the grid's capacity is around 70-thousand megawatts. (terisa estacio)early in the morning the buses rolled through the gates of san quentin - one of the states toughests prisons, including housing death row inmates. some of these kids had gotten up around 2am to get here. nats -prison gate shutting - and this is what it was all about - front and center with their dads. nats - ugh. meet fernando junior, his uncle, marcos and his dad, fernando senior. besides the prison uniform you might think there was noing unusual about this family get together sittin playing chs. but fernando has been behind bars since 2011 for assault and battery. this meet up is part of a program started 17 years ago by the state to help nuture the bonds between children and their incarcerated parents. this year, 52 buses will bring nearly 1200 children to various prisons. fernando l

(pam) new at 6.rrest a man ...they say molested a young girl over a period of at least five years in san pablo. officers arrested norman alexander lozano on june sixth ... after the vicitm reported she was underage. she says, the 41-year-old suspect would take her to various hotels... in order to molest her. lozano is the owner of the "n-y learning center... that is a richmond- based center for children with developmental disabilities. he is alleged to have known his victim.. since she was five years old. he is being held on a ten -point- nine million dollar bail. (steve) contra costa county's district attorney has resigned and pleaded no contest to corruption charges. mark peterson entered the plea to a felony count of perjury. he was sentenced to 250 hours of community service. a dozen other counts of grand theft and perjury were dropped. peterson had admitted to spending more than 66-thousand dollars in campaign cash over five years on personal items such as movie tickets and clothes. and failed t

(pam) and i'm pam moore. more than 200- firefighters are currently battling this 27- story apartment fire. this fire has been burning for several hours grant lodes has been closely monitoring the blaze...he's here now with the latest. (glo) it's seven a-m in london right now...the fire started six hours ago...and we just learned minutes ago...at least 30 people have been hospitalized after being injured in that raging fire. some for smoke inhalation...unclear what else. no confirmed fatalities. firefighters are finally getting a handle on things. these are new images as it's now daylight in london...fire from the second floor...up to the top of the 27 story building. several witness says they saw people jumping from about halfway up. the cause of the fire will be investigated once it is extinguished....but given what's been happening in the u-k...you hope terrorism is not involved. most people were sleeping when the fire started... officials are asking people to bring coats and shoes for folks who lost everyt
