it's friday, august 26th i'm dave clark. >> good morning, i'm pam cook.>>> in the news this morning sal is busy and sal, something just happened that you are tracking as we speak. >> that is right. we are doing we are letting you know about the deadly shooting in richmond. it's breaking news from overnight. this happened about 4:00 this morning. two gunshots sounded in this neighborhood. one person is confirmed dead. one person was seriously injured. a woman has been confirmed dead by richmond police. this is the 3200 block of moran avenue. police found one woman dead. another person was taken to a nearby trauma center and subsequently san pablo police detained two people nearby. it's unclear if they related to this or not. the richmond police did tell us that they are working this murder investigation right now and will be there for quite some time. we observed the criminal technicians coming out of this residence on the 3200 block of moran avenue. stay with ktvu. we'll find out more about this as it develops. let's go back to the dave and pam. >>> in ot

at 4:31 let's go back to pam cook. >>> the investigation is under way into a bizarre and tragic hit and run accident in redwood city. two cars hit and killed a man last night. kraig debro tells us the victim wanted to be hit. >> reporter: good morning, pam. typically we don't cover suicides on our broadcast but this one turned out to be a felony here. if you take a look on the street, you can see the orange markings still out there. sprayed as part of the police investigation. they received several 911 calls last night around 9:00 when they arrived there, there was a man lying in the roadway. he was pronounced dead at the scene. after interviewing several people police decided this was a suicide. he laid down in the road and was hit by two vehicles. vehicles did not stop. that is why this is not just a suicide but a felony hit and run. >> first he was hit by two cars. vehicle descriptions we have is a small silver sedan and smaller suv. >> reporter: police closed the road for two hours while the on scene investigation was taking place. police are still trying to identify the suicide vic

ktvu pam cook is in our newsroom with some pretty interesting developments, pam?: well, it is an unsolved mystery that has haunted the hayward police department for nearly 23 years. and now they are following new leads and a new focus that involves phillip and nancy garrido. investigators in hayward say that they had to wait until the jaycee dugard case was over before they could interview the garrido's about a little girl who looks a lot like jaycee. and now in november, 1988, 9- year-old little girl garrett was kidnapped outside a grocery car, taken away in a car that looked like the one that phillip garrido owned at the time, which is not the only similarity. >> when you look at the similarities between phillip garrido's aged photographs or likeness to the sketch, it brings some concerns and some compelling interest as to whether or not he may or may not be the person that we have been looking for all those years. >> investigators also found out that phillip garrido was living just about 20 miles from where the girl was kidnapped. he was living in a halfway hou

pam cook's in the newsroom to explain how today's market reaction is tied to this morning's jobs report. >> good morning. certainly investors around the world watched as our opening bell rang around about -- rang about and hour ago. [ opening bell ] >> after the 500-point drop many looked for the selling to continue but had this morning's monthly unemployment report was a welcomed surprise. more jobs were created last month than economists expected. and surprisingly the unemployment rate dropped to 9.1%. on that news, the dow shot up about 150 points. but that did not last long. if you look at today's chart, it really look the more like a richter scale. weigh want to know how we're doing. right now, the dow jones is up about 3 points. it has been down, though, in the last half-hour. now you can see it's turning down again. a lot of this volatility has to do with the job market. the volatility in the markets and the number of people continued out of work continue to hurt consumer confidence which in turn means people are not spending money and, of course, consumer spending accounts for a
