ktvu's pam cook is in the newsroom with concerns the gunman may have had help with his killing spree. it was a dramatic end to a long standoff in france, just about five hours ago. that's the sound every gunfire, officers exchanged it with the suspect as they stormed the apartment where he was hiding for two days. an elite team of police officers wanted to take him alive. but they say he was firing his gun wildly when they came in. they say he then jumped from a window, still firing, but was finally shot and killed. the suspect has been identified as 23-year-old mohammad merah. a criminologist says there were warnings signs about him years ago. . >> he been dished a sword and there's a complaint to the police which had been recorded in 2010, so a lot of signals that should or might have alerted the intelligence services on this guy. >> now investigators this morning say this may not be over. they are now looking into the possibility that he was working with accomplices but have not said why they think that might be the case. they also say he did videotape all three killings that he is

good morning, i'm pam cook.'s the first in a series of big storms rolling into the bay area today with the rain, of course, comes those slippery and dangerous driving conditions out there. ktvu's lorain blanco is at the bay bridge toll plaza where there is a wind advisory at this hour. lorain. reporter: good morning. it's gotten a lot more windy and cold out here in the last couple of hours. traffic has also picked up out here on the bay bridge. the roadways are a little slick from some on and off rain here, but right now the main issue is the wind. gusts could get up to 40 miles per hour here on the bay bridge, a wind advisory is in effect on the bay bridge as well as the dunn barton bridge, the san mateo bridge and the richmond bridge this morning. so give yourself some extra time and especially later on in the day when the rain picks up. you're going to want to drive very cautiously out here. give yourself an extra buffer zone, slow down if you need to and be careful of those high profile vehicles. of course,

ktvu's pam cook is in arenous room to tell us about wayward whales, pam. >> reporter: the scary thingther and her calf, so marine biologists are particularly concerned. we're live along chrissy field this morning, on whale watch, where the two whales have been spotted wandering into the bay. beautiful morning as you can see there at the golden gate. the gray whales are typically make their travels from mexico up to alaska during their spring migration, panning the water to catch a glimpse. this is a live picture along chrissy field. sometimes unfortunately the whales make a wrong turn on their trip north and head under the golden gate. a member of the national marine sanctuary says it's because the entrance to the bay looks very similar to the birthing lagoons in mexico. and we haven't been able to spot them there this morning, but newschopper 2 spotted the gray whale and her calf near the golden gate bridge yesterday. there's the video there. boats are warned not to get within 300 feet, and also avoid doing anything that could separate the mother from her calf. >> several boats were
