ktvu's pam cook is in the newsroom with the reason for closures and the actions protesters are takingght now. good morning, pam. >> new regulations go into effect in san jose today that some say basically amount to a ban on pot clubs. want to take you out live to city hall in san jose this morning. you can see some supporters still out there pitching their tents. they have been camping out and protesting right in front of city hall all week and collecting signatures for ta petition -- for a petition. about 80 medical marijuana dispensaries in san jose received letters about the new rules. they are supposed to close their doors at 9:00 this morning. some say the new rules are too strict and they are not going down without a fight. >> for the week we've been doing an occupy style protest while collecting signatures. >> the signatures are to stop the city's ordinance regarding pot clubs. basically, the ordinance regulates location of the clubs and state the marijuana has to be grown on site. mayor reid says the crackdown is necessary because the collectives need to comply with state law.

monday morning, july 14th i'm pam cook. >> good morning, i'm dave clark. let's talk about weather and traffic. steve, you have a tricky forecast. people don't know how to dress. >> dress cool if you are inland. if you're by the coast it will be pretty nice there. there is some areas of thick fog. other than that most of the coast is clear. it's higher clouds. we are between. there are some to the north. not many. temperatures you warmed it up yesterday. they will continue that theme today. livermore 94-98. east san jose 84-90. the key is the coast is even though it's clear, it will not be that warm. there is no offshore breeze. we will go 72 in san francisco. although it is mostly clear it will be a nice, nice day. here is the cloud cover i'm worried about. if these take the turn i think south bay and peninsula could see a lot of these clouds. but as it is, we will start off with 60s for many and end up with 90-100s away. under mostly sunny skies in the morning. don't be surprised. yes, that all add humidity. kind of a muggy feel temperatures anywhere from

pam cook is in the newsroom with this case. this is one in a very long list. pam? >> this is one of thousands of lawsuits filed in florida by smokers and their families against the big tobacco companies. a jury awarded r.j. reynolds to pay nearly $24 billion to the widow of a long- time smoker who died of lung cancer. one of her attorneys say the jury wanted to make a statement that tobacco companies cannot continue to lie to the american public and to the government about the deadly chemicals found in cigarettes and about how addictish they are. last year, florida supreme court approved a decision that makes it easy to sue the tobacco companies and many did. rj reynolds plan to appeal this and argue that smokers know of the dangers of smoking because of the warning labels. so far, the u.s. supreme court has refused to hear their appeal. their stock is down about a dollar a share. but it's climbed steady for the past five years. reporting live in the newsroom, pam cook, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. >>> 7:45. two american fast-food companies are apologizing to

pam cook is in the studio to explain why this is difficult to fight. >> good morning.eather has had the biggest impact on the fire and the winds. still bumping near the monticello dam, which is right where solano, napa and yolo counties all meet. that fire started friday night. it's burned nearly 6500 acres. it's still threatening 40 homes. now, the drought has created some dangerous conditions and firefighters say it is a tough fight because of the fire's location. >> not only are we in steep, rugged terrain, very difficult access to get to. but combined with the triple digit figures, low humidity, it makes it a very challenging environment for firefighters to work aggressively all day and all night. >> one firefighter was injured when the bulldozer he was using to clear a fire lane overturned. we just learned that possibly two other firefighters might have some minor injuries as well. the fire just got an update, still is only about 35% contained now and highway 128 still closed except to people who live there, 128 in that area. we also just checked with calfire for
