they could have killed him. >> our pamela brown joins you live from clearwater, florida. incredibly vicious attack. yet, the state officials who are prosecuting this case are only recommending probation. what happened here? >> reporter: yeah, that's right. and they're saying a big reason for that is because these three 15-year-olds are first-time offenders. now initially they recommended court-supervised probation. they have since recommended a stricter punishment which is department of juvenile justice supervised probation which would entail perhaps a juvenile record which is different from the initial recommendation. it also would include other measures like anger management, a strict curfew, and so forth. it's important to note here that these are just recommendations. when the three teens appear in court today, the judge will ultimately decide what their punishment will be. and he's expected to look at that beating video and perhaps hear from the defendants themselves in an apology. >> so weird. it's normally the prosecutors who shoot for the moon and the judge brings

pamela brown spoke to castro's sister today and joins me now. pamela, i poured through the new documentation that's been released this evening, very, very disturbing revolutions. much of it based on diaries from the three poor women held captive by ariel castro. tell me about that. >> reporter: yeah, that's right. you remember all the counts, more than 900 counts ariel castro faced and specific with the dates. we're learning that prosecutors actually used these women's diaries to help them document all the different charges. according to these documents that the prosecutor's office released today, the women over the past ten years got through their time in captivity by keeping diaries and writing about abuse they experienced and their dreams of getting out some day and seeing their families, by writing about being locked in darkrooms. so really disturbing details and we're not expected to see what those diaries say in court tomorrow during castro's sentencing, although we could be seeing some physical evidence, as well as photos. in fact, it's su

pamela brown is in cleveland and spoke exclusively to castro's sister. pamela, what can you tell us about michelle knight? >> reporter: well, erin, what we know so far is that one of the three victims of ariel castro's victims will be making an impact statement tomorrow at his sentencing. i've been told this by a couple of sources and also as you said, spoke to castro's sister, and she confirmed and corroborated the information that michelle knight is likely to be making an impact statement tomorrow. again, things could change between now and then. but that is the expectation. the other two victims, amanda berry and gina dejesus, are expected to be represented by family members at the sentencing tomorrow. but they are not expected to make an appearance. but castro's sister tells me michelle knight is expected to come and make an appearance at the sent tensing. we've heard from the three in that youtube video that came out several weeks ago. it was the first time we heard from them. and michelle knight talked about the hell she went through, saying i'm not

cnn's pamela brown joining me now live from new york. , what was this school district's policy? >> well, in this school district in particular, brianna, the driver was not required to physically intervene. he was just required to do what was necessary in order to temper the situation and help the young victim who was being attacked by those three students. but you know, brianna, unlike in schools where you have teachers, you have administrators who step in when a fight breaks out, on school buses when violence happens, there's usually only one adult and that is the school bus driver. the questions we're exploring, what should drivers do when violence breaks out and what's being done to break the cycle? this disturbing cell phone video showing three teens brutally beating a 13-year-old boy in pinellas, florida, in july is just the latest example of bullying onboard school buses. >> got to get somebody here, quick, quick, quick. they are about to beat this boy to death. >> reporter: the driver behind the wheel in this case, 64-year-old john

pamela brown, you have heard in talking to the families and people who know these survivors of this, what do you think this moment must be like right now for them? >> it is just emotionally gripping, john. i don't know if words can describe what this moment is like. think about how we feel as by-standers here, people covering the story and imagine if you know these women, i just spoke to a friend actually of one of the victims and he tells me that it is just so hard to accept this reality coming to the surface and seeing what the women endured and we have been hearing, john, about what michelle knight has endured, that she was the first to be kidnapped and she experienced the worst abuse over the past ten years, that ariel castro killed her unborn baby by starving her and giving her rotten food and jumping on her stomach and we heard, don, calling the doctor, the doctor calling michelle knight courageous, that she would step in and protect gina dejesus from ariel castro and she would take the brunt of the abuse to protect her fellow friend there in the home, and it is just incredible
